Turkey Legs

You will either love them or loath them but there is only one way to know. Also, you dont have to eat it like a caveman... you can sit down and pull it apart wih a fork or with your hands on a plate.

I think if you are on a several days in the parks trip that you only do every so often then you gotta try those things like the tigger tails, the turkey legs, the chimichangas, the gumbo, etc., even if you play it safe and get one for the group to try before delving in too deep. Part of the fun is checking out the things you see and hear about for sure.

Is it bad that some PP's said it was too salty or just alright, but I still really want to try one?! My eyes are telling me they look so tasty. I'll probably still try one someday, but I don't think DBF will want to try one because it's messy and has dark meat and may be too salty. Oh well, I'm lucky he loves Disney too, I won't make him love the same unhealthy food that looks good to me!

You know I swear there is a treat for everyones taste at Disneyland. I love Tigger Tails but lots of people hate them. Turkey legs totally skeeve me out. I like ham and I like turkey but to me they taste like some greasy, salty genetically hybrid mix of both:lmao:

But you have to try everything at least once....at least that is what my Mother always told me:goodvibes.....stupid liver and onions:rotfl2:

DH was the one who wanted to try the turkey legs, but he actually doesn't really like smoked food; he thought they were roasted. I, on the other hand, love it, so maybe i will try one one day. Anything sweet is my downfall though, hence preferring churros over a turkey leg.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! You are all correct in saying that everyone has different tastes hence me liking smoked food and DH not liking it.

Whatever your treat of choice is - enjoy everyone!

I like a good liverwurst sandwich myself. So I can relate. I believe more people would like such as well, if the name was changed to something more appealing. I don't like the kind of LW though, that has as one of it's ingredients, pig snouts. I do not, I repeat do not eat that! I do like fried pork rinds though. Yeah, yeah I know TMI! Ha ha! Get over it...... ;) :)

IMHO, the turkey legs are yummy but definitely too much for one person. DBF doesn't eat it so I have to eat the whole thing by myself, which is pretty impossible. The first five bites are delicious and then it just starts to get more and more sickening. But then again, I don't like eating a big hunk of meat in one sitting and need veggies to go with my meat  However, I do agree that you should at least try it once for yourself so you can at least cross that off your list ;)

My husband loves these things, but I've never tried one before. I heard on a Podcast a few weeks ago that each one is 1500 calories!:scared1::rotfl2: My daily caloric intake is around 1200, so this is insane to me!:lmao:

That's why we split one between three people. Here in Texas, smoked turkey legs are a staple at every festival and amusement park. The ones at DL do taste a little "off" in comparison. But, we eat it anyway!

1500 calories?!! :scared1: You just had to share that with us, huh? :rotfl2:

The men in my family always get at least one smoked turkey leg per DL or WDW vacation. As pp have said, it's like eating a big piece of ham with lots of obstacles (tendons etc).

Unlike pp ers, my men have no problem finishing an entire turkey leg themselves. Now I do have my personal standards and I make them eat the turkey legs sitting down. I really don't want my guys looking like Henry the VIII walking around the park knawing the meat off a gigantic turkey leg.

On our recent Christmas trip we picked them up at lunch time by TSMM and scurried back to our GC hotel room to eat them ;)

Here we are at DHS circa 2006 - get lots of napkins :goodvibes

I would take this with a grain of salt. The calorie count for smoked turkey leg meat is 46 per ounce. So the leg probably has, AT MOST, 10 ounces - since you don't count the bone or cartilage. This would be 460 or so calories? There is also about 3 grams of fat per ounce.

Now, Disney may add some sort of grease, they are very greasy, but dark turkey meat is inherently greasy and that count is for SMOKED meat, not roasted.

I am no expert on this, just saying.
