Turkey legs - do we dare?

I'm a guy so I don't pass up many chances to eat meat. That being said, I definitely did not like the turykey legs. It wasn't the taste but the color and all the tendon things. It's definitely not like a chicken leg! I ate about a 1/3 of it and tossed it. Plus it's greasey.

I don't like dark turkey meat so these do not appeal to me. However, they do smell good.

I'd like to hear from people who have actually eaten these. Every year we say we're going to try one - it just seems like the "Disney" thing to do. But, so far, no one has gotten up the nerve to try one. Are they cooked well? Are they tasty? I don't know - ordering a big hunk of poultry like that just seems scary to me!

 I wondered about that too! They may taste good but they look "icky" to me. Not one of us was brave enough to try one this year, but we seen a lot of people walking by eating them!

My son loves them and I am sure turkey leg is better for you than, say, a hot dog.

However, I find them tough, hammy, stringy, tendony, and messy like other posters have said.

But there is nothing WRONG with them :confused3

I used to see LOTS of people eating them, but when I was there in Sept. I don't think I saw anyone eating them. Must have been that people were too full from free dining! ;) I do eat meat, but those look too gross for me. I stick to the Dole Whip floats for my snack. :thumbsup2

Ugh! :scared1:

Yes, dare!!!! OMGosh are they yummy!!!!

I don't know - most of these posts are making me feel like I should stay away! I'll get my brother to eat one - he'll eat ANYTHING!

We look forward to eating the turkey legs every time we go across to Florida.

It's one of the highlights of our holiday !

They are messy but you can go to the restrooms and have a wash after.

I would say Stay Away! Yuck. They look so gross. My husband has had them before and he says he always feels sick after. I don't mean to ruin anyones fun but I read that they have over 1,000 calories and 3 days worth of salt. No wonder he felt bloated and sick after!

Party pooper!;)

They didn't taste too bad, like ham for us also. The entertainment value is great though. Everyone had their picture taken eating it....VERY FUNNY! Worth it just for that!:thumbsup2

Okay, now here's a monkey wrench ... I am a travel agent & I have a coworker who SWEARS that Disney admits that they're not real turkey legs, that they're more like pressed something or other. Well, I think it's hilarious to watch people eat them, but have no interest in it whatsoever. Too Fred Flintstone for me.

Last December, I planned on trying one, but I was never hungry for a turkey leg when we passed a place that had them. After reading that the hospital asked you if you had eaten one, I think that is enough to dissuade me forever!!! ;)
DH and I shared one at MGM on Monday night and we are still alive and well with no trips to the hospital! :rotfl2:

OOhh ya! There a must eat. Weve had them at MGM on a hot hot day with a cold beer and recently just had one on the Disney magic cruiseship during there Pirate party. There a must for me each time we visit. Very tasty:thumbsup2

we loved these at MK. I see you had them on the Magic! does any one know if they have have these on the Wonder for the pirate party too? I have not seen them before!

My DW & I were just discussing this.

The DMIL thinks it's revolting and wants nothing do with it. Too bad, more for us!! We too saw the feature in Unwrapped and were quite intrigued.

I love turkey, turkey legs & smoked turkey...however....where are they getting these from - HUGE turkeys??? Really - think about it - the turkey legs they sell are much much larger than your average or above average turkey - what are they feeding these turkeys?!?!?! I grew up on a farm where turkeys were raised to be eaten - and I've never seen a turkey with a leg that big!

I could see it now . . . the newest headlines . . . Disney admits giving steroids to turkeys! :rotfl:

I would assume so. It went well with the Pirate Party them. The only problem on the ship is there so much good food. You always stuffed!

My sister and I are quite appalled at this board. Turkey legs are the best thing to munch on mid afternoon. Or night. Or morning. Just reading this board and all the posts is making us salivate. We believe turkey legs are delicious. Who cares if they taste like ham?

By the way, how can you see it as being cannibal? People have been eating poultry in such a manner for hundreds of years. Trust me, a 'human leg' would be much larger and probably much cruder. lol. :rotfl:
