Turkey legs - do we dare?

this is off the record- previously I worked there and I can honestly say DO NOT EAT THE TURKEY LEG!! processed meat from what I heard- they are too expensive too and pretty gross tasting in my personal opinion! If you are looking for somethig Disneyish to try please stop in Adventureland and try a Dole Whip instead! It is Pinapple flavored ice cream but I do not believe it is Dairy Based!!! NOW THOSE ARE WELL WORTH THE MONEY YOU PAY FOR THEM!!

We love them. The reason they taste like ham is that they are smoked and so are most hams that you eat. If you have ever eaten fresh ham (not smoked) you won't think they taste like ham at all. They are salty, because they are soaked in a brine before smoking, this is to keep them from drying out and to give flavor. They are not "processed" meat (like for example potted meat or sandwich meat or something). They are actual turkey legs, you can tell by looking at the meat. The issue of whether they are cooked well enough probably comes from the pink color--all smoked turkey has a pink color to it. Its all a matter of taste. If you like smoked meat you will like them, if not you won't. My husband usually only eats white meat, but loves these turkey legs.

Ok here is our 1st encounter with the infamous turkey leg!!!!

That thing was as big as my son's head! We LOVED it and he begged for another one every day. We will definitely make this a part of every trip. Whoever said they were expensive - this was the cheapest lunch we had all week - a turkey leg and a coke for $7.75 - and we were stuffed!

I was reading on a trivia site about WDW, that the legs are actual turkey legs, they come off of turkeys that weigh between 40 and 50 lbs.

They are smoked and they do have a salt water solution injected, so the part about 3days worth of sodium, is probably pretty spot on.

I love turkey, I didnt really care for the legs.. They werent 'bad' but when you have a 50 lb turkey, the legs are gonna be a little tougher.

I dont think I'll have one at WDW, BUT I usually do 'have' to get one even though I wont eat it all, as it does taste like ham, when I goto the local Ren Festival. Medeivel stuff it works for, doesnt quite fit WDW to me..

I like the turkey legs. Every time I go to WDW, I have to eat one.

My girlfriend, who shares this username with me, hates them. She thinks they are disgusting and always asks me why I have to get one.

I didn't know that about they were injected with a salt water solution. I guess I need to buy extra water.:rotfl:

im not a dark meat fan at all but the turkey legs in disney are very good! i would advise everyone to at least try it :thumbsup2 ya kno its one of the cheaper things in disney at 4 bucks :rotfl2:

When I was younger, I always looked at people who ate them in envy knowing I couldn't eat all of it but they just look so tasty! My dad had always wanted to try one too but never did. One day, in my teens, I got one with my dad and it was quite a disappointment. It's just salty. Yes, it has the texture of meat, but no real flavor. Even with this, I still always look when I pass and watch other people eating them. Don't go by my opinion though. My brother loves them and must have one every time we go. He eats it all of the way down to the bone. Yes, he's thirsty afterwards, but he loves them!!

Are they really turkey??? I've heard they're Emu...

Me and my sister finally caved and bought a turkey leg last summer. NEVER AGAIN. It was probably one of the most disgusting foods I've ever eaten. We took like two or three bites each. They were greasy and smelled so bad. Plus we waited on line for 20mins to get them. Ugh what a waste of money. We felt nauseous the rest of the day.

where are they getting these from - HUGE turkeys???

I've always wondered about the size of the turkeys (I looked it up btw it is keys and not kies) supplying the legs!

My daughter LOVES them while I'm so so on them myself. I usually end up picking off of hers because I do enjoy the good pieces of meat. (They do taste like ham.) I never really enjoy chicken wings or thighs in general because of the little bones and gristle involved while eating them.
