Turkey Day Gang 2009

I have more questions!

How far is Trunk Bay from where the ship will be?

How far is the town from the ship and/or Trunk Bay?

I am trying to fit in a morning excursion, a visit to Trunk Bay, and a bit o shopping. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Les

Did anyone watch the 2011 announcement? I'm ready for our family to book the Dream for a summer 7-day itinerary! Can't wait to visit Admiral Donald!

I did! I'm torn between sailing on the Dream vs. cruising to Alaska.

Yes! What a cute announcement! I've been wanting to sail to AK for a looong time. The downside for me is that it looks to be a roundtrip from Vancouver instead of a point to point trip. This eliminates the possibility of doing a land portion in Alaska. I was hoping to get to Denali and do a few other land based things. And I'm a little worried about the pricing on this one - guess we'll see in October!

:yay:

Finally DCL close to home. I was suspecting the California Adventure improvement had some ties to the Cruise being here. Now the dates look about right.

Frankly I could care less where the ship sails. The saving on airfare alone makes this much more competitive to other cruiselines for me. But Alaska is beautiful and I love the city of Vancouver.

Now my kid's education may suffer since he may have no money for college and will get yank out of school quite often. ;)

Disney Cruise Line will sail to Alaska for the first time in the summer of 2011.

The Disney Wonder will sail a total of 18 seven-night Alaskan cruises, departing from Vancouver, B.C., and visiting Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway. As part of the new Alaska itinerary, Disney Cruise Line guests will be able to experience breathtaking natural vistas, an abundance of wildlife and the rich history and customs of Alaska’s native culture.

I wish they were going to Glacier Bay (or doing a pt. to pt. cruise instead of round-trip). Sorry DCL, but we will likely book on Princess or someone else for Alaska in 2011. (Sigh).

Yeah I wished they would do Glacier Bay too but oh well. Deep down I think Disney is testing the water on the Alaska Route. Don't know how much is involved in including the Glacier route. They can decide to change up the iteniery in the future based on response and feedback.

Another thing is the cruise terminal. Given the utilization don't think Disney will build its own in LA. From past experience on the Mexico Riviera cruise, the boarding and disboarding process will not be smooth as in Port Canaveral.

Hey Karen. I'm thinking the same thing. RCCL has a nice trip that ends up in Seward (might be a little more kid friendly than Princess?). I think I would miss DCL though. Maybe I should check one way flights from Vancouver to Anchorage (nuts!). . .

I've read great things about Princess (and their kids programs)...and they go to Glacier Bay (RCCL didn't get a license). We really want to see Glacier Bay. Also, (and maybe this is "standard" for Alaska) I've read that Princess has a naturalist on board to explain things (sounds educational/informational to me!).

When are you all thinking of going?

Karen

1. I need to have your tshirt order (with sizes) by October 1.
2. I will place our order shortly after that and the order should get back to my house by October 25 (at the latest).
3. I will then sort, and pack everyone's order and will ship it to you (at the address you specify) via priority mail, flat rate box. We should all have our shirts by November 7 so that they can get washed and packed with our cruise stuff.

Finally got everyone to agree:woohoo: They said yes!! We need 11 shirts.

1 adult xl
2 adult m
3 adult s

1 kid xl
2 kid l
1 kid s
1 kid xs

now i have to catch up on all the posts I missed this week.

I remember reading that Princess has better educational programs. I know I compared RCCL and Princess for this trip a looong time ago and felt like it was a toss up. RCCL embarkes/debarkes in Seward vs Whittier. I found a day trip out of Seward that I LOVE, so thats why I was leaning in that direction (check out the Fox Island overnight) -

I suppose there are similar tours on Glacier Bay out of Whittier though. My plan was to do some land travel first - Anchorage/Denali/Seward. Then do the cruise from Seward to Vancouver.

My parents are in Alaska RIGHT NOW and loving it. They are on a tour though - not my thing.

I'm not sure when we'll go - maybe 2011. After seeing that DCL is roundtrip, I'm thinking that we might just ditch the cruise idea and do our own thing on land.

I have an itinerary put together; we should compare notes!

Oh, and check this out (don't look at the prices though - you'll have a heart attack) -

Well we have not seen Michelle and family since....last weekend...and presumably they will eventually be able to be added to the dining link..which is still on page 120...

As to the dining rotation, i am waiting until about october both to see who else may join and to see if they change the rotations yet again...i have seen that happen in the past...

That said, for those on the list, i need real name of main party member, reservation number, and if you have it yet, stateroom number...please either PM me here or email to icelaw21@aol.com
