Turkey Day Gang 2009

Does anyone know if 2100.00 for a week in Hawaii is a good deal? I have never been (yet) it is planned for 2011/2012 :)

Lisa-

We are so sorry to hear about your husband's coworker. You and your family are very special people to care and arrange such a wonderful honeymoon!! Have you looked at travelzoo? There are 7 night packages available to Hawaii for approx 1000. The ones I looked at include airfare and hotel. :wizard:

Wow - thank you all for your warm wishes and idea's..

I had been saving to pay for the cruise in cash (so as to not strap a charge card ) but the money has dwindled down to almost nothing with the donations and other things....I asked DH yesterday if we can't get all the money back in the til - can we still go - and he said "of course!" phew!!

To surprise my mom (she is ill ) I sent money to my brother ( he is unemployed and a severe Alcholic) so that he can come spend the weekend with us. In about an hour my mom will see her son whom she has not seen in over 6 months :)

Holidays bring people together for sure!!

Happy Holidays to all

Hello all

Just to pass on an update. We were able to collect $3000.00 :hug::hug:
We told our Co-worker and his wife yesterday and they are departing for Maui on 5/18. I was able to get a condo on the water and airfare from Boston to San Fran to Maui for $1000. So we are tickled PINK over this. I am printing out car rental places for them now so that they can do that themselves. It just makes you all warm and fuzzy knowing that adults can have a "MAKE A WISH" trip too!

Onto Disney - only 213 days till depart! whoo hooo

:cool1:

I just booked this cruise yesterday and it will be my first disney cruise. I am a real newbie so bear with me.

I am a little nervous as I will be cruisn' solo but I know Disney magic will prevail.

Now if I can just make it till then...

:cheer2:

welcome welcome -- we got a great group here - very friendly - you will fit right in with us :)

I am a disney nut of course and have always gone to the parks at least once or twice a year. I have never cruised before and I thought during the holidays would be the best time.

I have been listening to any and all podcasts about cruising and of course checking these boards as I am very excited.

Thanks to all for your kind wishes and welcome messages.

I tried to talk my brother into coming with me on this cruise but so far no luck with that.

Thanks again, Leslie

Hi Leslie - Welcome and Congratulatons on booking your cruise! We are new, too. We are so super excited. I have started to listen to all the podcasts I can find, too. My DH gave me an IPOD for Christmas and just figured out the whole podcast thing. LOVE EM"

Today is the last day of spring recess for my DD so we are going to enjoy the beautiful weather and go for a bike ride. Need to start getting some of this extra winter weight off. I am finding the cruise as great motivation!

Have a great weekend everyone. :wave2:

Wanted to report that my Passporter was delivered a couple of days ago. I look forward to reviewing it and learning more about the cruise as well as finding more about excursions. I told DH and DS13 that they better start reviewing or I get to do all the planning. :rotfl:

Also - just wondering - has anyone booked their airfare yet? So far it looks high for us but we'll keep watching.

And, I'm glad to report..... the cruise is to celebrate DS13's Bar Mitzvah this August as we gave him the choice of a party or family trip. DS went to his first big party of the class this past weekend and I was afraid that when he came home he was going to tell us he wanted a party instead. We're good to go - as tired as he was at midnight when we picked him up, his response was "I still want the cruise." So-- you're not getting rid of us. ;)

Wouldn't it be funny if I knew your SIL?!? I describe Va Beach as the biggest small town I know. Seems everyone has that "6 degrees of separation" thing -- although it's usually only 2 or 3 degrees! ;)

No kidding, we find that a lot when we meet people from VA Beach. Especially because SIL has been teaching for nearly 20 years. That is a lot of students and parents. I will drag them kicking and screaming to this site eventually. They think I'm kind of a dork for posting here.

Booked a private tour with Joyce Prince for St Maarten! Very excited!! We're going to wing it on St Thomas -- butterfly farm, beach, that sort of thing. Only excursion left to book is possibly parasailing for DH & DD10 on CC. I know to book the earliest possible time -- is anyone here planning to try it, too?

DD, DM and I are hoping to do the parasailing at CC.

I have been listening to any and all podcasts about cruising and of course checking these boards as I am very excited.

DD9 is also obsessed with the podcasts. Guess I am too! :thumbsup2

Good morning all!

:woohoo: Sherris!! Glad he picked the CRUISE - plenty of time for parties and all the drama that goes along with the teen years!! :rolleyes1

High School has been very hard on my DD since she is a drama/dance/homebody/SADD member and a geek - a very pretty GEEK though...Everytime I hear about a party she is going to attend - I think about the sleepless night I will have when she comes home! :headache:
Prom is in less than two weeks and her date dumped her yesterday -
:scared1: so she is going to ask the exchange student from Hong Kong to go with her. DD is going to let her borrow a gown and I will get her some flowers and let her experience a PROM while she is over here! - when life gives you lemons you gotta make lemon bars!!

Airfare is scary right now - JetBlue and Southwest are not open to our time yet - I know that Jet Blue should open with in the next month and SW should open in June I am told. Delta from Boston is about $455  - so I am holding off for now will wait for JB and SW -- if I can get SW out of Manchester NH then it will be worth the extra few dollars in cost since I wont need the hotel in Boston the night before the trip...

we got 25 FE rooms listed - yahoo - only three groups checking into the Hyatt the night before so far -

well I am off - gotta drive two hours for a seminar this morning - talk to you all later - :grouphug:

Welcome Leslie! We are newish here too!

Well, we're back from Spring Break in Washington DC. It was great but we've never walked so far in our lives! It was also nice to experience spring-we had 70 degree weather and the flowers and leaves were out, unlike here, where it's 50, raining and still brown (love this Upstate NY weather!)

We haven't booked airfare yet either-we want to go either JetBlue or Southwest too. We're going down on the Thursday before so that we have a day at Disney. We are hoping to go to Mickey's Christmas Party and maybe take in Animal Kingdom. We just booked two nights at the Pop Century.

OMG! Why didn't I think of that?? If I'm going to fly Fri AM and miss school/work anyway, why not fly Thurs night?!? Seriously, I cannot believe I didn't think of it. Now to convince DH.... heehee

BTW, according to Southwest website, they will open the next round of dates (Nov - Jan) on June 23. Mark your calendar!

yea flying on thursday are soo much cheaper than fridays, i ussually leave thursday night. its just a lil crazy that night after work n all, but the savings are great

We are going to try to arrive on Thursday (although I think we are driving b/c the price to fly for a family of 6 gives me heart palps). That way we can do MK on Friday. DD3 is obsessed with all things Disney and Princesses. If I had my way, I would take her there tomorrow (she was only there when she was 10 months, so obviously has no memory of the trip). Plus, I think it would be a nice way to kick off the vacation. I even have a couple of very old park hopper passes that never expire with one day left on them. Can't think of a better time to use them. It would be fun if a bunch of us were at Disney before the cruise. Would be another good time to wear our shirts (but then I would be doing a load Friday night so we could wear them again on Saturday!!) :laundy:

Sounds like many of us are planning to go early. I think we're driving as well (from Richmond) - although I found a super cheap flight on Air Tran this past T-giving. If I can find a similar fare, we may end up flying. Our plan is to leave Thursday night after work and spend a night on the road. We would get there Friday in time for Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party at 4:00 (which I am embarassingly excited about - more so than my kids). I was able to get a studio with a MK view at the new Bay Lake Towers for that night - should be a lot of fun!! :goodvibes
