Yep, the whole house (including the dog) is on a diet here! It's a very crabby house.....

Hi all,

I still have the t-shirt stuff from last time and would (gulp) volunteer to do it (with my trusty side kick ...and DS....Andrew!).

We'd need to set a deadline for ordering and then payment stuff again. I'm guessing we'd need to order everything by October 1 to get the t-shirts in and then get them shipped out to everyone so we can all have them on our first day.

Last time we did lime green (in honor of the DIS)...but we are surely open to another color....maybe a nice Caribbean Blue...or yellow...or.....

Karen

Karen-

Thanks for volunteering!! Caribbean Blue sounds perfect!! :thumbsup2

Lisa

Blue sounds great! I'm in for a shirt. I don't think the rest of my family would appreciate them though- I just don't think they get it. Does anyone get their whole family to wear them?

I hope everyone else is doing better after falls and illnesses. What a rough month its been. We had 2 cases of pneumonia and an ear infection at our family and that was plenty. Everyone is much better now, thank goodness.

I spent the weekend out of town in the rain at the beach, but it was great. I read my passporter cover to cover. I'm even more psyched for the trip now. I think I've decided on our tours in port, I've marked my calendar for 90 days prior to sailing. Last time I was up at midnight booking palos and excursions. Does anyone else do that or is it just me that is insane?

I also came up with a bunch of questions that I'm hoping some previous Turkey Day Gang members can answer. Does any one remember what day Tea with Wendy is from last year? And how many women really wear long dresses on dress up night? (I've never been on a 7 day before. Women don't wear long on 3/4 day much). And has anyone done the couples massage? And was it worth it? And it says my 12 yr old will be able to come and go from the clubs as she wants - how do you keep an eye on them? That sort of freaked me out. And the book mentions classes at the gym, does anyone remember what the schedule was like? Like what classes were offered and what time they were?

And this is just more a comment - but my family was totally excited to hear the names of the new boats last week. We had both the names listed on our family "list" that we were betting on. dd11 and ds 8 both guessed the dream, and I had the fantasy -along with wrong names like the Journey, the Excitement, the Imagination, the Star. Is anyone going to try to be on the maiden voyages? They should be a blast.

Hi Paula,

Yes, I get my entire family to wear the shirt! Andrew (DS) is very enthusiastic about it...DH...well, he goes with the flow (after nearly 20 years of marriage, he finally figured out that resistance is futile in some things :thumbsup2 !).

I don't remember when the Tea with Wendy was...but I think it was the first sea day around 2ish? I found the Eastern Navigators and here is a link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1988680 so that may help you.

As far as formal night, some women do wear long dresses (and some men wear a tux). I usually go with a nice dress, but that's just me.

Can answer your question about the couples massage (you'll have to tell me what it's like). But I can answer the question about the kids signing themselves in an out.

I don't consider myself a "helicopter mom" but I am pretty conservative about what Andrew can and can't do. In all honesty, if you lay down a few practical rules (i.e., no running on the ship; no abusing the elevators...i.e., don't punch every number and be a nuisance; don't go in anyone's cabin without mom or dad's permission; don't go in a restricted area; etc...), after a day or so, you'll feel better about things. Last year I had the same worry and after a the first day, I was fine with Andrew having the run of the ship! What I learned was that, generally speaking, I could find him either a) in the arcade; b) in the theater; c) at one of the kids activities; or d) at the pool.

We do keep a small white board in our cabin and leave each other notes...we do require him when he leaves the club to go back to the cabin, write down the time and tell us where he is going...and/or...see where we are (based on our note) and come find us. It's a big ship...but it's not that big. I think it also helps since we feel comfortable with the Turkey's who traveled last time and our kids got to know one another and hung out together quite a bit.

Andrew will be 11 1/2 (can't forget that 1/2) when we cruise this time (though he looks older) and he'll have run of the ship. If I find out he abuses this priviledge...well...let's just say he'll be on a leash (and yes, I do mean a leash!) after that!

Ah, yes, I know what you mean. DD turned 11 - "and-a-half" already this month. I consider myself pretty conservative when it comes to the kids too. But I forgot, my father is all about walkie-talkies! So my dd will be carrying one with her on the cruise. She's going to be oh, so happy about that. But I'll bring a spare dog leash just incase.:rotfl:

I've been meaning to find a navigator, the link was great. And I was wrong- its tea with Alice not Wendy- but it looks like they have it twice and you pick up tickets at guest services on the first day. The print is so tiny, (or my eyes are so old), that I never was able to figure out exactly when it was, but it makes sense to be on at sea days.

Also, I'm hoping they will change the schedule for us so that we aren't dressed as pirates on Thanksgiving day? I kind of hope its a semi formal night, our family usually dresses up a little for Thanksgiving.

And I just checked to see what movies Disney is releasing in Oct/Nov and it looks like there are 3. And then a really cute Christmas release that I wonder if maybe we'd be able to see early??? I never go to the movie theater when I'm at home, but our last cruise was rainy and I saw 2 in 2 days. popcorn:: The navigator link you posted included movies and it made me wonder what will be in the theater. Here's what I found.

DISNEY’S A CHRISTMAS CAROL (in Disney Digital 3-D) -Release Date: November 6, 2009

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG -Release Date: Christmas 2009

I vote for blue as well. I have my lime green shirt from the cruise in 2005. It would be nice to have a different color this time.

Dustermom, those movies sound great. I think DW and I will go and see at least one of those movies.:)

Rob, I would be willing to have a drink with you if you can't 'find' Larry!!! I'm not much of a drinker, but I do like to have a rum and coke once in a while:drinking1

Still 8 months to wait!!!! This is torture!!!!:rolleyes1

Ooooohhhhhh...thanks for the informaiton on the movies! I guess Old Dogs will be released while we are on the ship (just like Enchanted in 2007) which means a movie at Midnight on Thanksgiving! Personally, I'm excited to see TS3...I hope that will still be playing when we are on the ship.

8 months..............:sad2:

Karen

I'm excited about those movie releases, expecially another Pre-M"EAR" at sea!!! I'm sure they'll have both of those 3D movies playing with the new 3D technology on the ship. :cool1: :dance3:

I just like a "cold" beer or two at the end of the day :thumbsup2

We had a very scary experience today... Mason fainted in class this morning and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Luckily, all of the tests they ran came back normal!! :thumbsup2 He is fine and he will be able to return to school tomorrow. The school guidance counselor rode in the ambulance with him and stayed with all of us at the hospital during the tests. :thumbsup2 What a day!!

Lisa

That is scary!

Do you know -were they talking about something yucky? I remember the girl next to me in 7th grade fainted when we were discussing malaria that the teacher got on his vacation. My bil passes out because he has vasovagal reactions or something like that. He passed out at his blood test when he got married and also in the movie theater during that tom hanks movie -cast away I think - where he has to pull out his own tooth.

I'm so glad Mason is fine now.

Karen-- thanks for the idea of the white board. I like that idea. And, thanks for the info. regarding the kids on board.

Paula – Thanks for the movie announcements. The boys became very excited. I just realized that you have a DS8 too. I hope our boys like each other!

Lisa – Oh my! Poor Mason. I’m glad he’s OK and they didn’t find anything wrong.

Wow Lisa, that is scary! Glad to hear he is fine. Do they know what might have triggered it?

BTW, I am really glad the guidance counselor went with him. I can't even imagaine how panicked you must of been. It must have been some comfort to know someone was with him.

 Elsie
