Turkey Day Gang 2009

We'll be flying out of BWI. I know I'll find it cheaper than 600 - I just had sticker shock when I saw that. On our trip in October we flew Air Tran for $54 each way - that was an awesome fare. I know it'll be higher around Thanksgiving. When we flew last year we flew Southwest and I paid $34 each way for that trip.

Our $59 rate was during Thanksgiving, but it was a last minute thing. We had planned on driving, but couldn't pass up the fare! I can't believe $34 each way. Thats incredible!!

Hi ya'll, I'm just popping in to say hello. I don't have any flight news since we drive from Atlanta. It does make packing easier since we can bring 2 bags each at no extra charge and the only weight limit is how much DH can carry.:lmao:

I've been working very hard after work at a home based business of mine. HyppyChick and DB even helped me over the Thanksgiving break this year. I get really busy for Christmas. As a reward for getting all my work done on time I'm going to treat myself to a new pirate costume.

How "dressed" do you like to get for the Pirate party?

Chuck and I usually just wear some sort of pirate t-shirt w/ jeans. Our ds used to love to dress in his pirate costume!! pirate: However, this year, at the ripe old age of 9, the children in his age group did not wear costumes. :sad1: So, he ended up wearing a pirate t-shirt and cargo shorts.

My family dresses up pirate: DH has a pirate outfit that I got on Ebay for $150 - and when we travel on DCL we bring a stuffed monkey ( long story - but it belongs to a friend of ours at work ) and it is a hoot!...

Last cruise DH DD and I were standing in line for our pics and over 25 + people came up and asked for pictures with DH and MON-key -- we even had people telling us that DH was better than the one that Disney had - well it could have also been that we had just come back from Cozumal and Tequila shots - so he was staggering! eheheh - but to be honest - it was FANTASTIC - he kept being shown on the DUMBOTRON too - and people would holler and hoot when they saw his picture. So DH wants to do that again - So we will be dressing the Part for sure!!

Has anyone used one of the following bus tours?

Bernards Tours in St. Marteen
or
Spiderman Tours in St. Thomas
or
Godfrey Tours in St. Thomas

If so can you share the experience?
Cost seem amazing to me for an all day excursion :)

I'm gonna try Pillow tours - its the tour where you sit your a** on the beach all day and sip frosty drinks. ;)

HEHEHE - I like that tour - but I would be the only one in my party doing that - the rest want to explore!

I have not used any of the above, but I have read good things about Godfrey tours on this board and "the other board"

Actually, I'd love to go explore St. John, but I think the ship leaves relatively early that day. I don't think we'll have enough time to do as much there as I'd like. I really would like to spend an entire week on St John exploring all the beaches. SO, my conculsion was that we'd probably just hop a cab to Magens Bay for the day. Is it really really crowded there? I've heard its a beautiful beach.

Megans bay is beautiful:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 and yes it can be crowded, depends on how many ships are in port...everyone seems to know about Megan's Bay

Hello Turkey's

Well if this years storm pattern happens next year I am going to be very happy to be coming to Orlando the WEEK BEFORE the cruise.

A week ago we had this killer ice storm that knocked out the power in almost 80 % of the State of NH - and the Gov declared a State of Emergency - it is still in place now. Yesterday we wake to a snow storm that dumped over 6 inches of white junk. Tomorrow we are due for another storm that will dump about 6+ on us. Then Sunday into Monday a HUGE one that could dump a foot on us. OK - so it is December - but 2 feet of snow predicted in two days !! come on now....:scared1:

It shows New Englanders that they soooo need to come down prior to cruising!!!

Good Gravy that's terrible Lisa! Keep warm and dry.

The high for today in Dallas is 75:worship: I knew there was a reason I loved Texas:thumbsup2

I am from Baltimore originally, but do not fly down the day of the cruise...come in the night before...due to Homeland Security regs, if you are not on the boat by 4pm, your only hope is to fly to St Marten, and even if the boat were going to Key West, which it is not, you still could not board it there (but that is a Jones Act law, not Dept of HS)...the old rule that if Disney made your flights they might hold the ship days are over.

As to the men...hmmm...maybe Wendy can get her husband to comment and I am sure Rob will speak up too, but candidly there is plenty to do, even if you don't care for the schtick. We have some friends that tried to do it all their first cruise (hello Willie if you read this), but soon found out what they ultimately got was worn out. DH should find plenty to do, and I will be the first to say I am frequently at activities separate from Lisa and Mason (10 at time of the sailing)...especially at CC where I am always involved in the hard core volleyball game (there is a second net for the less hard core).

Chuck:cool1:

Wendy here.... chiming in on things for husbands to do.... My DS Larry loved to hit beat street and FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL, they always had a game on. We did love taking family side trips on the islands as we have been to them before.

Castaway has many things to do, the Volleyball is awesome !

Wendy

Rob and Priscilla shared with us the Hyatt at MCO airport. That has been great ! We done that the last couple of times we did Disney Cruise.

VERY easy the disney staff makes getting to the port a breeze.

Wendy

I'll chime in on night before the cruise...we will likely stay somewhere on Disney property...shh...maybe the Wilderness Lodge to surprise Steve. We usually drive down (sorry, flew once at Thanksgiving and that was enough for me...getting stuck in O'Hare for an overnight was not fun!).

Is anyone going to extend and go back to Disney World for a few days after the cruise? We are seriously thinking about doing this and going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Karen

We like to spend the night before the cruise in a hotel on Cocoa Beach. We will probably go to WDW for a few days after the cruise, and come home on Monday.

We drive to Cocoa Beach the evening before the cruise and stay in the hotel w/ the best rate. So far we've stayed at the Residence Inn, Country Inn, Radisson, Quality Suites and I think, Hampton Inn over the years. Our favorite was the Residence Inn, but after the first year it was built the rate went up too high to justify for one night's sleep.

Lisa

OK so it appears we have a few of us at the Hyatt the night before -

Maybe we will meet at the pool or the bar or the lobby :)

I am there with my family
my Sister is there with her family as well

I am not sure what time Sharron and her family will be arriving since they will all be departing from three airports ( due to college ).

My family will be arriving early on Friday since we will have been in Orlando the entire week prior :) :) :)
