Turkey Day Gang 2009

Thanks, I'll bet we can at least get him in a collar for Turkey Day. He might still have room service on formal night.

He did say he would wear a tux if he could wear flippers and goggles like James Bond just coming in from an adventure.

Newbie here and SIL to MommyMinnie :wave2:

We'll be on our first cruise of any kind so since it's a Disney Turkey Day cruise, it will be extra special!!

As mentioned, we'll have our sweet baby girl, Phoebe, who will be 16 months old on the trip and my DH, who doesn't want to wear a tux or carry a jacket. He says he'll be in the Caribbean and it'll be hot as Hades. Am I correct in understanding that as long as he wears slacks and a collared shirt, that he'll be ok??

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I always try to tell people that Formal and Semi Formal are really dress up optional and for the benefit of people who ENJOY getting dressed up. It's not meant to harass less casual folk.

It's like when you go to a play at the Fox Theater downtown here. Some people get all gussied up, some people wear their Sunday clothes, some people wear what they wore to work today, and some folks wear whatever just makes them comfortable.

And there is no Fashion police to chase people away.

DH wears twills and sometimes jeans and a golf/sports shirt every night including semiformal. He wears a tux on formal night as an excuse to wear his mickey vest and to please me.:lovestruc

Jeans won't cut it on formal or semi-formal nights...also, this will be November...I would not count on it being as hot as Hades especially in the evening...mid 60's to low 70's is more likely that time of day and year.

Chuck, I think you need to re-read my post. DH wears a tux on formal night. DB is still assesing his options but is happy he can loosen up a little for Thanksgiving Dinner.

Welcome to our newbies. You've picked an awesome group of cruisers to join! What I'm about to say may feel like I'm picking on you...or may make me seem stuffy....please know that I'm not!

I understand your fight as I had to fight it with my DH on our first RCCL cruise. Please let the gentleman in question know that it's not to "punish" him or make him do anything...it's just that if he wants to "eat with the grownups" (as I tell my DS) he needs to dress appropriately...or as Rob said, go to Topsiders!

While I know everyone has their own sense of style, and as others have said here, there are "no fashion police," it's truly wonderful to see everyone dressed up on formal and semi-formal nights. The pictures are wonderful!

My DH is not a "formal" kind of guy...he's worn a tux exactly three times since I've known him...once at his senior prom, once at my senior prom and then when we got married. My DH will certainly NOT be wearing a tux...but he does wear either a suit or nice slacks with a jacket and tie for formal night...and then a jacket and nice slacks without a tie on semi-formal night. I think the key is the jacket and looking nice on both nights!

Fortunately, my DH has never completely balked at the idea (though he hates ties as much as I hate pantyhose) and I've reminded him that if he won't dress up, I'll just be escorted to dinner by our DS! (I think one of the reasons I can get DH in a suit jacket is that even my 10 year old DS agrees its appropriate to wear a jacket on formal and semi-formal nights! Nothing like a son goading a dad into wearing "proper attire!")

As far as it being "hot as hades," as others have said, this is November and even during the day it is not as "hot as hades!" Actually, it is quite comfortable...in the 80s...but the nights are a bit cool...60s and 70s.

Now...one question Rob...where did you get your Mickey vest? My DS (Andrew) would love to have one!

Again welcome, we're glad your joining us and know you will have a wonderful time!

Hiya all ---

My DH loves to dress up to the 9's - he does not do that all the time due to his work. SO most times I do not have a problem asking for DRESS UP TIME. On our first cruise he wore a suit - second cruise we rented the tux package - and then this time we are up in the air... DH loved the fact that he did not have to pack clothes for dress up - he wore the tux shirt ONCE but the pants every night.... and the nice shirts or a sweater he brought - he looked SHARP!!

I have to lose a a bit of weight that I gained so I can get back in my outfits for the cruise....

DD just wants to wear skirts....

:)

Karen-

Priscilla found the Mickey vest on where else....Ebay

Also you might get a kick out of this story...Priscilla,Rachel and I were in NYC last summer and decided to go to this really nice restaurant. We got dressed appropriately for this caliber of restaurant and went back that evening for diner. We had a table near the front door and started people watching( you never know who you might see). Any way it was interesting to see how many people were turned away for not being dressed appropiately.

Rob:thumbsup2

Thank you all for the information. DSIL and I will be sure DB and DH have an enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner.

Hi Patsy,

There's one thing that's for sure...they won't go hungry! My family usually travels at Thanksgiving because a) DS has a week off school; b) there's only so much of the inlaws and outlaws I can take...and Christmas is usually it; and, c) I hate (as in can't stand it at all) turkey! My notion is that if you're gonna call it "Thanksgiving," why not serve something to be truly thankful for...you know...like lobster, crab, shrimp, prime rib, etc...but a turkey :confused3 . Sorry, I just don't get it!

Again, welcome to the Turkey Day Gang. We're a fun group...very nice even tempered folks...who are all Disney nuts (though some of us maybe are just "plain" nuts:thumbsup2 ).

Rob,

Has anyone that is coming in the day before thought about where they are going to stay? We are going to do the Hyatt MCO again this year. I am going to get one of their certs. off the web site for $129 and get our room booked ASAP.

Maybe we could have a pre-cruise meet there?:thumbsup2

Rob

Hello all! So excited to be joining you guys. I have so many questions for everyone, DH and I are DCL virgins (actually, we've never been on any cruise before) and we will be travelling with a pretty large group... let's see, there will be 17 of us in all. My parents took my two oldest kids on the Wonder last January and had such an amazing time DM booked 4 rooms not even sure who would use them but boy did family and friends jump at the chance.

Like I said, I have a ton of questions but I will start with just one. We are expecting baby #4 in January (at time of cruise our other kids will be DD -10, DS -8, and DD -3). Does anyone have any experience cruising with an infant? Any experience with the babysitting on board?

Thanks for your help and looking forward to chatting with everyone as the months progress.

Where do you get the certificates? My dh and I stayed there back in September, and I think we paid somewhere around $170/night. $129 is a very good price for that hotel.

Hi Jennifer,:goodvibes
A Disney cruise is a great way to start esp with kids those ages.
Unfortunately IDK anything about flounders reef. My own daughter was 11 when we started cruising. Most folks seem to love it though.

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the Turkey Day Gang! 17 people is a lot to cruise with and I know you'll have a grand time! Sorry, I can't help with Flounders Reef either...DS is 10. Maybe just post to the main cruise board with question?

Let us know if any of us can do anything to help though. Chuck is a very experienced Disney cruiser and knows a lot of the answers (sure helped us a lot for our first Disney Cruise).

Karen

Hi everyone!! Hi newbies!! :yay: It's now less than a year away!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 Our DS was 5 when we first sailed, so we have not used Flounders. In fact, he is now 9 and decided he wants to work on the Disney Magic. However, we have heard wonderful things about Flounders from families who have used the nursery. They will coordinate times w/ excursions and w/ Palo reservations. From what we heard, DCL also provides diaper genies and pack and plays. The Magic also now has a water play area on deck 9 next to the mickey slide for the younger cruisers. Enjoy!! :cool1:
