Turkey Day Gang 2009

We are living in the Land of the mouse for the week. The Thanksgiving season is getting under way early. If the economy is suffering in the USA it was not apparent at WDW.. Wall to wall people. We made a trip to the Grand Floridian to see the decorations.. Very nice.

Hope to make it to Animal Kingdom in the AM to check to see it...

Hope everyone is doing well and Happy Thanksgiving...

Happy Turkey Day.... Turkey's

Next Thanksgiving we will all be together on the Magic !

We are closing out our trip today... The Resorts are packed, the PARKS are insane..... I don't ever remember seeing so many people. Several cast members told us that these are some of the biggest crowd ever... Wow with economy in a mess .....

Did some great pin trading in Downtown Disney....

Hope all is well with the Turkey Gang...

Good morning all -

Happy Tday a few days late - hope you all had an amazing one. I kept thinking over and over that "NEXT YEAR I WON'T HAVE TO DO THIS!!!!" but then DH reminded me - but NO turkey sandwich later --- so is the TDAY meal at dinner or lunch time? silly question I know - but here at home we eat our TDAY meal at noon and then have a sandwich at 6 --- so maybe we have to flip flop that next year??

So we are going to fly in a week before the cruise and stay at a condo I rented - so currently Delta is showing RT for 210.00 for that two week timeframe - so that is good - we will get the tickets as soon as they open up next month....hope I can still get that great deal....the only thing is we will need to fly out the DAY AFTER the cruise to get the great rates ---- how horrible that we have to STAY one more night - boo hoo....ya right.... so I found a Deluxe King room at the Hyatt for 191.20 plus tax - does that sound good to you all? we fly out early sunday morning - so I do not have a huge option of going to the park and stuff - I have seen where people find the Hyatt for cheaper but I don't know how that works...any help would be greatly appreciated....

Also we rented a Toyota Sienna for the week before the cruise - since there will be 7 of us at the condo - got that for 350.00 for the week through Hertz - anyone know if that is a good deal too??

Gosh it looks great to see my countdown clock under a year now!!! woohoo

Hi Lisa,

Happy (belated) Turkey Day to you too! This year we went to my SIL for turkey and all the fixins...and well, I just ate all the veggies...(sorry but turkey....yuck!). I can tell you from last year that they had the "big meal" at dinner...but then again nearly every meal on the cruise can be as "big" or small as you wish!

As far as rental rates go....if you go to mousesavers.com you can get a FREE membership to National's Emerald Isle club...and then you can reserve a mini van generally cheaper than what you found one for (at least in my experience). I know the last time we rented a "full size" we got a mini van for about $250 for the week.

Anyway...can't wait to see everyone soon...I just wish my ticker would move faster!

We were on the Wonder for the 3 nighter, and our luck wasn't as good. It was icky and cold - a bit of a bummer (and then cold in Orlando afterwards). The 3 nighter was just way too quick for us - think we'll stick with the longer trips from here on out.

And by the way, I felt that the service was definitely up to par. There were signs of a little wear and tear in the staterooms, but overall, the trip was positive. The food was still good - just had 1 meal I wasn't crazy about. I have to say though that the new Toy Story Musical was pretty bad. The kids didn't like it either. Hope Disney gets rid of that one quickly!

Hope everyone had a nice holiday!

Hey Karen - Thanks so much for that tip - I will for sure head over there and sign up --- we priced tickets to the parks we want to go to while at the condo - Disney Animal Kingdom for one day for three of us $225.00 --- Seaworld for one day for three of us $200.00 and then NASA $150.00 - ouchie -- ok - it is worth it - it is worth it - it is worth it.....

I want to start looking for some FE gift ideas to make - do we have a rough estimate on how many of us are doing this? I want to be creative ( well that is my plan - who knows if it will pan out - hehhe )

we set up the Tree and decorated the house this morning - I had a very hard time doing that - my Dad's favorite holiday was Christmas - but his wife ( my step-monster) did not believe in Holidays - so he has not had a Christmas in 12 years - we planned one this year for him - but oh well - he is here in Spirit!

I am just glad that next year we will have Tday on the Magic and wake to Christmas decorations !!! :) and it is so bittersweet since this will be my last Disney Cruise for quite some time....DH and I are planning Hawaii in 2012... and after that goodness knows - paying off Hawaii's bills - heheheh --

I want to start a wedding fund for DD - she wants to be CINDERELLA at her wedding - so I have lots of time to save since she is only 16 - but man what a dream come true to be married at Cinderella's Castle.....:bride: :bride: :bride: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Hi everyone!! We hope ya'all are having a very nice Thanksgiving weekend!! We are now home and reality is setting in....we need to unpack, do laundry and Mason has homework to do. :confused3

We are looking forward to spending next Thanksgiving w/ ya'all!!!

The Magic was beautiful!! :thumbsup2 The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and the cleanliness was perfect!! We cannot complain at all. The staterooms were touched up during drydock including new flat screen tvs. We did not notice any problems.

Mason loved the 8-10 year old activities. There are a lot of new programs. Many of the counselors remembered him, which made Mason happy!! :thumbsup2

After the first day boarding, the weather was picture perfect. We will keep our fingers crossed for next year!! :wizard:

How soon do we get a tentative # for the FE gifts? I have a creative idea and I wanted to start getting some supplies soon :)

Hi Lisa and everyone,

I love the early bird! Someday, I hope to be one too...but I doubt that will happen!

Anyway, I think for Turkey Day 07 we had about 50 to 60 people total participating in the FE. We didn't get a "final" number until about a month before the cruise. That's probably not much help...but maybe some?

I guess we need to start the call to find out who wants to participate in the Fish Extender (FE) and begin assembling the list of who is participating, what stateroom(s) (that will come later), disboard names and ages of those in the stateroom (helpful if someone is travelling with really little ones).

For those that are new, outside your stateroom door there is a fish that you can hang things from (hence the name fish extender). Some people sew (gasp) a multi-pocket thing...some people buy them...and others get really creative and hang bags, etc. from their "fish." Then, mysteriously, throughout the cruise, little trinkets and treats are left in the fish extender. They are never expensive trinkets...usually things like glow bracelets, bubbles, special wrapped hershey bars, pirate themed stuff, turkey confetti, etc. There's an entire thread on how to make a fish extender and trust me, it's not that hard (you can even use glue instead of sewing). I'll look and see if I can link that thread here so everyone can see what we are talking about.

Also, in '07 we had t-shirts (so we could find people) and Wendy (and a few others, I think) made some wonderful magnets that they emailed and shared! Ah yes, this is a wonderful group of cruisers...makes me sad that I won't see everyone for almost another year!

So....that's all I can constructively contribute...let the list building begin!

Karen

Last year was the first time we participated in the fish extender program, and we loved it! They don't have to be anything elaborate at all. It was fun coming back to the stateroom and finding little gifts each day. I got my exercise making the rounds to all of the staterooms!

Hello Everyone:

The FEs were the best! We had a great time leaving gifts for everyone. Just small items or even Candy were a big hit.

Hope everyone survived the Turkey Day 08 and are ready to start serious countdowns for Turkey Day 2009.

Wendy

Hi guys!

I am traveling next year with my DH, DD 13 and DM.
Hopefully we will be joined by my DB, DSIL, and DN.
I have peeped in on your thread a few times but have not been ready to make the commitment to full scale planning yet.

I do have a question that I think I have asked you all before but I don't remember the answer.

Is Turkey day related to formal or semi formal? My DB is refusing to poke his head out of the door on formal night and I'm trying to convince him that he's just being silly.

BTW my DN (Dear Baby Neice) will be 18 months old. I am so looking forward to making 6 little princess dresses and one little pirate.

Yes the Turkey day cruise is related to formal/semi formal nights attire. If your DB does not want to dress up he can eat diner at top siders.

Rob, I think you misunderstood the question. Is Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, on Formal Night or perhaps semi formal night? I would like to give DSIL some warning if she needs to start sweet talking now.

I gotcha Thursday is simi formal night:thumbsup2

Thanks, I'll bet we can at least get him in a collar for Turkey Day. He might still have room service on formal night.

He did say he would wear a tux if he could wear flippers and goggles like James Bond just coming in from an adventure.

Although it is technically semi-formal night, you see all sorts of outfits in the dining room. If you can get him in something other than shorts/jeans, and a collared shirt, he should fit in fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Even on formal night, there are many who don't wear a tux. A suit is fine.
