Turkey Day Gang 2009

Happy Friday to everyone.... We we in West Virginia had a few bad days but I think the heavy winter is behind us.

I have been reading over the last couple of pages to see what I have missed. The questions of when to visit WDW has come up.. Chuck and Lisa are right summer is bad (HOT, HOT & HUMID) but if it is the only time you can go? We have visit several times in Mid October - LOVE IT !! WV gives the kids a two day break for teacher training??? and we hit the Not So Scary Halloween Party and it is great. The lines are not long and factor in your Magical Mornings and it make a really nice couple of days.

Hope all is welll....

Really wishing we were on the Turkey 08...

Karen is right I wish the ticker was counting faster.

Wendy

We have been on the thread for June 08 cruise not active at all.. Thank goodness for you guys.

Hi Wendy (and everyone),

We think we're going...or at least the plan right now...is to go for 12 days around the 4th of July. Yep, it's gonna be HOT! Yep, it's gonna be HUMID...but it's that way at home too.

I have to share a secret with you all for when it's hot....remember those ziploc bags that everyone says to take with you on trips....well, we pack a damp washcloth from the hotel in a ziploc with ice and then put it in 2 or 3 other ziplocs and carry it around with us. It's great to wipe off the face, back of the neck and pulse points with when you're really hot...very refreshing! :thumbsup2

As for getting more ice throughout the day....if you ask nicely I've found that most CMs will give you some at lunch or your mid-day snack break.

So...I think it's July for us...with Annual Passes again (which just means I'll have to go back several times during the course of the year...oh DARN!

Karen

Just back from WDW where those annual passes came in very handy...great weather Sat/Sun...OK today..we left about the time the rain came...

Rubbing salt in our wounds again?

Some people are just to lucky to live in Florida :worship:

Chuck,

Speaking of rain, DD Rachel and I were skiing at Elk Mt. Pa in a little rain on Sunday! They have had as much rain as snow this year! It was fun anyway!

Chuck:

We are thinking about the Annual Passes also ( Maybe with Water Park) Thanks to a little extra business travel this year we will be in Orlando about 4 times... With the DVC discount, that should really work out to a little savings.

Hope the skiing was awesome out west. You know you have a standing invitation to Snowshoe !!

Wendy, do you live near Snowshoe? We love it there and had actually thought about buying a place.

Chuck, where do you recommend out West? We were thinking of taking the kids out next year for a ski week. I've heard Beaver Creek is great for kids, but that Utah ski areas are easier to get to. I'm lazy and don't like to be too far from the slopes. We're in Virginia, and the skiing has been aweful this year. I hate to spend money to ski in slush!!

Jodie

Wendy - would love to squeeze in Snowshoe, but dont realistically see it happening this year....that said, annual passses break even on about 6 days worth of visits...we have the premium annual passes which have no blackout dates, include all parking, the 4 major parks, the water parks, Disney Quest, the ESPN area, Pleasure Island and lots of other discounts...be careful to avoid the passes that have the big blackout dates unless you know those dates wont be an issue, although those passes do not include water parks...to me, Blizzard Beach tops them all, especially if you can make rope drop and have the stamina to climb the stairs (instead of the agonizing long line for the lift)....

Jodie: Out west, if you are wanting a ski location great for kids and family, Steamboat has no equal and the airport is a 30 minute ride and and can accomodate large planes...the skiing is great too unless you are looking for a heavy dose of double blacks...and the town is also very nice with plenty of good restaurants (which you can enjoy b/c of the evening kids program at the resort)...as a second choice, probably Snowmass, so long as you dont mind the shuttle to Aspen for the nightlife (but it is not far)...

Jodie:

We are in Huntington and I work in Charleston. We are 4 hours away. We have a place at Tree Top..(Low Rent District) We have been up there since 89' and love it. We ski in the Silver Creek area alot. Prices have really gone out of sight in the last few years. But friends have said that there are good deals to be had now.

I'm officially sick of winter! Today we're getting hit with an ice storm. Just about every school in St. Louis is cancelled (except the University where I work) and there are accidents everywhere!

OK...done whining. I wish our cruise was in March!

Hi Andrew:

Its Lindsey I hope you are doing OK. I want to talk to you before we go to Disney in April. I want to count the hidden Mickey in the Haunted Mansion. We only counted 30 but I think you said there were 100.

Lindsey

I wish on the 30 bit...and it was Lisa's birthday yesterday too.

Chuck:cool1:

Pillow...with regard to free dining, we've been reading RUMORS that there will be free dining offered this hurricane season at WDW. All it is at this point is a RUMOR...I have nothing official. The big change (at least for us) is that now Annual Passholders can participate in the free dining program so that is causing us to re-think the timing of our trip.

If I hear that it is real (and not a rumor), I'll be sure to let you know.
