Turkey Day Gang 2009

It came from a comic stip called Mother Goose and Grimm. There was a scene with Mickey's desk at Disney Studios and the name plaque read "The Duck Stops Here." I thought it was amusing and decided to make it my screen name.

Andrew:wizard:

LOVE it Andrew~~

I work in the finance world and I have a plaque that states "the buck stops here" ehehehehe

Hi Sherri (and all),

It's been a whirlwind here as DH was called out of town for a work emergency (yep, I'm married to the Crisis Manager, Process Safety guru) unexpectedly on Monday and is hopefully meeting us at WDW tonight. So....all those little details that we were going to split up and do were left to me...and then (with faculty returning) my work went nuts too. Let's just sum up the past two days this way.....:scared1: !

So Sherri, I'm sorry I never looked at the stamp...it was a case of hmmm...what's this....rip...oh yeah , I remember!

I think I got most everything done...and now, just have to get the dog to the kennel, load up the bags, make a last minute trip to the ATM (yep, forgot cash yesterday :headache:), pick up DS's friend that is going with us, race up to the airport, get on the flight and then........ ! I'm going to Disney World!!!!!!

TTFN,

Karen

So jealous! Have a wonderful time!!!

This is totally off topic, and I don't expect a response till you get back. Where in Missouri do you live? I found an animal camp for my kids in Rolla - about 1:45 from St. Louis - am thinking about it for them next summer. Its called Cub Creek. Heard of it?

Hi Jodie,

Cub Creek Science Camp is AWESOME! The gal who runs it, Lori Martin, is wonderful! During the school year they operate a respite care camp for the St. Louis ARC (serving severely developmentally delayed individuals). So, I figure that if they can serve that population, they can certainly handle kids!

Andrew went between 2nd and 3rd grade and then again between 3rd and 4th. The camp can be very hard to get into so I'd call Lori soon. Andrew didn't go this year because we had my 19 year old niece "nannying" for us all summer and we traveled a bit. Plus, Andrew declared last year that "he was sick of camps" and I can't blame him for that...he's been going to camp since he was 3 all summer long!

Anyway, that's my $.02

Thats great to know! I've seen some horrible zoos in my time - always makes me sad. Do they treat the animals well, and are the animal's living conditions good? I called and spoke with someone in the office - asked her a few questions. I just wonder what qualifies someone to take care of all those animals - would think you'd need to be a zoologist or something.

We're thinking about it for next summer. The price is actually a little less than what we're paying now for camp, and I think the cabins are nicer. Its a 14 hour drive for us, so I'd probably fly them out and stay at a cheap hotel all week, but the travel expenses just bump up the cost. Not sure yet; we'll see. They really would LOVE those animals!!

I remember when Dallas area schools began as early as August 7th! (And let me tell you, it was a lot of fun for kids who were outside during P.E, at 100+ degrees!) Now it's a Texas law that school cannot begin begin before the 4th Monday of August. When I was in elementary school though, we didn't start until after Labor day.

Rachel begins August 25th. She's really eager, and I'm happy for her.:) (Except when it comes to helping with homework. Let's just say she's a lot smarter than I was in school!:lmao: )

Priscilla

We start school on 8/26. Joey is starting 7th grade and Daniel is starting 3rd. I remember when school started the day after Labor Day and I liked that better. We're lucky with school supplies cause Jack's company goes school supply shopping for us. All we need to do is provide the lists and we get a $50 credit per child. :cool1: We let the boys pick out stuff like folders.

Summer went by very quickly. I didn't think it would since there was no summer vacation for us this summer.

If you want to see pics of us, check out my PTR for our surprise October trip.

Growing up, we always started school after labor day too. Summer vacation season basically extended from memorial day until labor day. Not anymore!! However, here in South Florida, the first day of school has been postponed by at least 1 day due to Fay. It appears that it will be very wet here. For any of ya'all in Fay's path, I hope you stay safe!! :wizard:

Stay safe! And, I hope everyone will be Ok.

Southern Florida friends.. Hope everyone made it out ok.

Here in West Virginia our school is starting August 26th. The summer just flew by.... We are looking forward and counting down the days until our Disney Vacation at Thanksgiving.

Still hoping to meet up with Chuck, Lisa and Mason ! We have switched to OKW and hope to work it out.

Hi all from a VERY soggy WDW! We're having a wonderful time. DH, DS and DS's best friend are all enjoying the experiences...new and old. T.S. Fay has NOT been a treat and we hope she blows away today leaving us soggy, but not drenched anymore. I have decided, however, that if this is what a T.S. is, I'm going to start naming our thunderstorms at home because many of them are MUCH worse! I guess I'm "lucky" as I've only dealt with folks recovering from storms (used to work for FEMA when they were the "good guys") and haven't been through a hurricane yet!

Hope everyone is well. Wendy and Larry, Steve and I want to talk with you about your DVC experience.

More later,

Karen

Karen,

Hope you dry off soon and are able to enjoy the rest of the trip. Are you thinking of buying DVC? I wish we could do that - maybe, someday.

Karen & Steve and " The Duck Stops Here" (Andrew love your handle)

Hope that Fay blows out and you can enjoy your trip !

Guys any time you want to talk about DVC let us know. We actually bought in some more points and we have been VERY VERY pleased ! We have stayed at a couple of the places and they have worked out great . Larry ran the numbers and ran the number and for us it worked out great. We bought annual passes at a great discount too.

Chuck and Lisa are a great source of information ! I think that they own at Saratoga Springs.

Let us know what questions you have.

We own Saratoga as well. We found that if you plan to visit WDW and stay at the DVC resorts, you break even in about 5 - 7 years (don't forget to include dues). However, if you think you'll want to use points for the cruise line, ABD, or other Disney resorts, it takes much longer to break even (15-20 years). We've never traded out. We tried to get a few places, but there were waiting lists, and we were too impatient. We think DVC can be a great value if you stay at WDW, but outside of WDW, I think you have to be a bit saavy about how you use your points in order to get a good value. If you have any other questions, we'd be happy to help. :goodvibes

Hi all!!

Karen-Hopefully Fay has passed ya'all now and you can enjoy the rest of your WDW vacation!! We are DVC members at Saratoga Springs. We really enjoy being members. In fact, in addition to WDW, this past Jan we used points for 1 week in a 1 bedroom, very nice condo, in Tahoe. Much better than paying out of pocket!!

Wendy-We would love to meet up w/ ya'all at WDW over thanksgiving vacation!! :thumbsup2

Luckily the weather never got too bad due to Fay...just wind and rain. We are used to those conditions here in the summer!!!! Mason finally started school today. After being in the house for 2 days, he was very excited to go to school today!! :thumbsup2 Somehow, he didn't receive any homework, but he brought me an entire folder of paperwork to sign!!

Also, today, he FINALLY lost his first baby tooth!! :cool1: He will be 9 in October, but has never lost a tooth until today!! He is very excited!!

Congratulations Mason! I bet he was super excited. Joey was 10 when he lost his first tooth.

Unfortunately, for Joey, he had SEVEN teeth pulled on Monday to get him ready for braces. He was such a trooper. He'll go through Phase I for about a year and a half they say.

Good morning everyone~

Hope all are safe :)

We start school the day after Labor Day and I know Renee is ready to go - she wants her Junior year to start so she can dream of the Prom - ehehe -
I can not imagine the costs that will be associated with this year - yearbooks / gowns / class ring / class trips - eekkkk - Glad I booked the cruise a year ago cus I would not even think about putting it in the budget for this year. Oh wait - I dont have a budget - :)

Things in NH are going smoothly - I got a stomach bug or something going on so am out of work till I am symptom free for 48 hours - so I get to go back tomorrow - a full week of my earned time out the window - dang it - oh well -at least I got lots of time to read the boards.....
