Turkey Day Gang 2009

Welcome SSRJen! Glad you are coming along too!

So, it looks like some are meeting at the MCO Hyatt...and some of us are meeting at MVMCP. For those of us meeting at MVMCP, do we want to exchange cell numbers or try to meet at a specific place at a specific time?

Steve's PSM audit is this week at work and he is completely stressed out! Andrew is reading the Phantom Toll Booth this week for his book group and I just finished baking chocolate chip cookies, making salisbury steak and homemade meatballs with marinara sauce. I'm trying to cook ahead for the week since this is going to be a tough one!

I finally gave my notice at work and they were NOT happy campers...particularly since the order is that they cannot replace anyone who leaves right now AND I was the only grants person in the entire law school. So, I'm trying to write a leave behind book, train someone else on various aspects of my job and give recommendations as to who else can do other parts of my job. Oh yes, and my new job is already calling me and asking me to attend various meetings (mostly evenings...though I am using up a few "vacation days" to attend day meetings for the new place already...and yes, they will pay me...but it's still a royal pain to juggle it all!)

Oh a funny (and kinda sad) note...I called our kennel to alter our reservations for the dog and Tracy (the main gal at the kennel) asked if she could take our dog home with her for the holidays. She recently lost one of her dogs and she and Wendy (that's our dog) get along really well...Tracy's almost like a second (or would that be third?) mom to her. So anyway, she didn't want Wendy to be at the kennel on Thanksgiving so (or actually, she didn't want to be without a "furry baby" at Thanksgiving Dinner) I guess our beloved "Bird Brain" (that's one of her many nicknames) is going to get Turkey that day!

Now, why do we call our dog "Bird Brain?" Well, we have a 90" round dining room table. One evening I was in there folding laundry with the baskets all around the table and someone came to the door. Wendy couldn't figure out how to get around the baskets, so she jumped over the table (missing the chandelier by about 6") :scared1:! So, we began calling her Wendy Bird! Then about a week later, we were playing ball one evening and she always just tears out after the ball. Well this evening, she wasn't paying attention to where the wall was located and ran smack into the wall! It was so funny...she looked at the wall as if to say, "hey, where did you come from?" We laughed so hard and said that she must be a dog of "very little brain" (ala Pooh)...so we started calling her Bird Brain!

Well, that's all for me! Night everyone!

That is so sweet that the woman from the kennel is going to take your dog home for Thanksgiving.

Michelle - are you doing Palo for brunch that day? We should make a time for Bunco later in the afternoon so we don't conflict with Brunch, but not too late that it would conflict with those who have early dining. Maybe from 3-4? I'll also check the latest Navigators to see if anything conflicts with the time, like the Mickey 200.

Karen - hope your week ends up better than it sounds.

Speaking of Palo -- we'll need to book when we get onboard. I think I prefer brunch over dinner but might book both. What are the best days/times for each? Remember - this is our first cruise.

Well,

Got up early this morning .. around 5:30...and I actually finished one of my 5 HUD grants! :worship::worship::worship:

Maybe this won't be such a rotten week afterall!

I am finally catching up to all the posts over the past 4 or 5 days. Yes, it is very exciting that DCL is going to Alaska!!! I told that to my soon-to-be wife and she immediately said we are saving for that!!!

Since this will be my 5th cruise, I will get to be bumped up to Gold status. It will take a while to get to Platinum!!!

Chuck, I will PM you our info for the dining link. I would do it now, but I have the stuff at home. I will do that tonight after work.

Less than 10 weeks until the cruise!!!:cool1::thumbsup2:banana::rotfl:

I LOVE:love: this master plan!! Such an organized girl you have! I always said "First time for money, second time for looks, third time for love."

Sadly, it hasn't worked out...I think I'm on some kind of prototype!

That's because it is supposed to be the first time for love, the second time for money and the third time for companionship!!! (see Jackie O. for inspiration )

I have no idea as my husband was taking care of it. But do not change things on my account. We have some friends that live on board so we have to wait until they are off to spend time with them. Also remember that each week they may change the time and day of events so for a specific thing like the Mickey 200 you never know. I know they try to keep it consist but we all know things happen.:rotfl:

Well being your first cruise I would not book Brunch on the first Sea Day (Sunday). I would also avoid booking dinner on Thanksgiving or Pirate night. I think you may want to experience all that is each of those night. The characters wear their pilgrim clothes. That is my 2-cents :)

Probably the best night to book Palo if you can is night 5 and brunch on Day 3 (Monday)...As Michelle said, I'd advise against Sunday if this is your first cruise, and given the dining options, day 5 works well b/c day 2 is Golden Mickeys, Day 4 is Pirate night and Day 6 is Thanksgiving (lobster and yes turkey). Further since Thanksgiving is the 3rd sea day, you would be less likely to want to have brunch that day...One last comment: don'y try to do brunch and dinner the same day or the morning after dinner....the food at Palo's is very good and since this is a cruise ship, you can, and are even encouraged to at times, order multiple entrees so you will be evry full...and did I mention the chocolate souffle desert.....

And for those seeing Bruce (or wishing they were), the band still played a full 3 hour set including a 6 song encore....5 songs from Born to Run...and the set included 4 songs chosen from audience requests (signs) which were rarities...total set was 27 songs if i counted right and that included 10 minute versions of Jungleland, Outlaw Pete and Backstreets...

Hey, where is everyone tonight? Surely not everyone is watching football :sad2:?

So, here's our next tip. When you pack, be sure to pack an extra bag! It's amazing how things "grow" on a trip (or, if you are bringing FE items...you'll already have that extra bag!).

Night everyone. Early to rise means this lady must be early to bed too (or everyone will suffer the consequences :rolleyes1 and it won't be pretty)!

Karen

Chuck, I agree. People are on board-posting hangover I think!!!:lmao: There have been A LOT of posts lately. Maybe they are giving their fingers a rest.:rotfl:

To answer the post from last night, I was one the many watching football.:woohoo: I told Chuck I would PM him our dining link info, but got distracted by football!!!

We are doing Palo brunch on Sunday. I have been on 4 cruises before so I know what to expect and how I am. I couldn't wait to eat at Palo. I think my wife-to-be will fall in love with Palo.

We have started to do our home work on the Alaskan cruises. She asked me last night if we could see the cost and I told her not until 9/28. She is REALLY excited:woohoo:about going to Alaska!!! So am I!!!:cloud9:

We're in count-down mode here! Count down to the cruise. Count down to hockey season starting. Count down to the Cards clinching (our magic number is now 9!) Also, count down til Steve's audit is over. Count down to my last day of work/first day at the new job.

Ack...too many count downs to keep track of at the same time!

Karen

It is 5 o'clock somewhere so technically you are there already

I like how you think! :thumbsup2 I wonder if I can use this excuse as I head out the door early?

I'm trying to get as much of my work done as early as possible. The G-20 economic summit is coming to Pittsburgh next week, and it's going to be a nightmare trying to commute. :scared1: I think I'll be working from home those days.

that is great...

We now have a great group going. We are at Animal Kingdom for a few days prior... I think we plan to meet somewhere for a short meet Friday Night in the park....

w

We are flying into Orlando on Friday around 1:00 and staying at AK as well that night. We have been to MVMCP two years ago and I was so happy when I found out that we could attend one before the cruise. Can I ask what time you are heading to port on Sat. from AK? I am planning on booking Happy Limo just not sure what time yet.

Interesting that you mention 5 o'clock somewhere, Michelle...there was a thread member back in 2005 who used the handle "5 O'Clock somewhere"...and there was Lampy's sighting in a hot tub one evening...don't know if anyone else here remembers those details though I think a couple of you were on the thread and the ship...
