Turkey Day Gang 2009

Hi all,

Happy Labor Day! I'm (unfortunately) sitting at my computer working (though goofing off at the moment). Steve decided to paint the porch, front door and trim today (not sure what got into him...but it's good by me!). Andrew is playing the Wii and our dog Wendy is blissfully napping (undoubtedly dreaming of cookies and chewies).

Labor Day is one of those holidays that I always hated growing up. Not much going on...just catching up from the summer...getting ready for school and trying to finish the last book on my reading list.

Now, as an adult, it doesn't do much for me other...except guarantee me a 4-day work week that will be the week from h*## as people try to cram 5 days into 4!

I've decided to take a week off in September and just get caught up here at home before I go to Boston and then start the new job. Ahhh....a week of sleeping late....cleaning house....cleaning closets...cleaning the basement....sounds a lot like work to me, but it will all be worth it (right?) when I am done!

Well that's it....back to work for me. Hope everyone is enjoying that last minute summer getaway-got to get it all done day!

Hmmm...75 days until we cruise...I hope it goes by quickly!

Wow! Lots of pages to catch up on! :thumbsup2

Welcome to the new folks. We are really getting quite a DIS crowd onboard. :goodvibes

I'm planning on rebooking onboard, even if it's just a dummy date. I am hoping we can transfer the OBC and the discount to the Dream for 2011. The Thanksgiving sailing has worked out well for us in '07 and '09, but '11 will be Logan's first year of college, so we'll have to see how that works out.

I'm going to set up a DIS account for my niece so she can post on the kids' thread. I talked to her this weekend about getting to know the other kids ahead of the cruise, and she was very excited about that.

Laura,

That's wonderful. Andrew has been lamenting that the kids aren't posting. I've reminded him that many just started school and so they likely don't have much time...plus they're not as chatty as we adults are :thumbsup2!

Karen – I was wondering what everyone was going to do with the 2011 dates coming out this week and that cruises can be booked for 2011 before our cruise. DH doesn’t know it yet, but, I’m hoping to rebook and get the discount while on board. We’ll see. :rolleyes1

From what I've heard, the destinations will be announced this Friday, but we won't be able to book anything until October.

You can go ahead and book in October. Then on our T-day cruise, they will apply the onboard discount to the res you already booked. You can keep the same res# and room. Of course, there is a chance that rates will go up between when you book in October and our T-day cruise, which could cancel any onboard discount. When I booked our Med 07 cruise, I watched prices climb throughout the day - glad I booked early in the morning. It was nuts!

Tinkerbell 99 mom - thanks for all of your tidbits. very cool :thumbsup2 As a newbie, I can now think about what to pack for each day. My DD is extremely excited about G-Force. What exactly is it? She thinks it is about some hampsters? :confused3 I have no idea but the shows all look marvelous to me.

As far as the weekend went. We spent it staining our rear decks. How many spindles can we possibly have. It took 3 days to do the pool decks and the deck on the rear of the house. Lesson learned. Next time, we will use trex or something similar. Any ideas, we love the look of the grain in the wood.

We plan on booking onboard for our next cruise as well. We have one planned for 2010 so we are looking for 2011 onboard the new ship if possible. Can't wait to see what the itineraries are going to be. Thanksgiving week works really well for us.

Elsie:

I think G-Force is hampsters. My DD also told me that the movie will change as we get closer. She thinks there may be a Premier may happen while we are on board.

Where exactly among the trees are you?

Our deck is huge and a pain in the a*! to stain. This year my dh taped plastic drop cloth on the house and sprayed the stain on. It worked great and was super fast - probably 80% faster than the brush method. Just make sure you tape the plastic really well cause that stain does not come off the house.

I wish we had Trex too!

Happy Labor Day everyone! #2331

We had a quiet weekend here. Beautiful weather. School starts tomorrow. My kids are more than ready to get back....mom is too!

Okay I am jealous...Alwayslisad got to go to Olive Garden and trace's kids haven't started back to school. Can I just say that I have already taught 5 weeks of school and am thrilled that I am more than 1/4 of the way through the semester (except I think my next semester students will be more challenging)?

I find hope by breaking it down like this...I will be at WDW in less than 3 weeks, I get a break in 4 weeks, and then I can really start counting down to the cruise. I printed out our magnets yesterday. I can hardly wait:cool1::banana::cool1:

Hi Guys,
Just popping in to say I mad the update for Karen. Take care.

My DD who just turned 10 is very big also... 5'5 .... Big kids... I bet Mason has shot up also....

Wendy

No such luck!! :confused3 Poor child...with a father who is 6' 8 1/2" and a mother who is approx 5'10" (Chuck thinks I'm taller than that)...Mason is still the smallest child in his class. He is approx 53" tall (not tall enough for the flow rider on Royal Caribbean) and weighs approx 52 lbs.:confused3

We just got back from a wonderful labor day weekend at wdw!! :wizard: We went to the Halloween Party at the MK friday evening. It was a lot of fun!! We now have enough candy for an army!! :thumbsup2 We met dis friends at Epcot on Saturday and more dis friends at AK yesterday. Now it's back to reality...laundry and work/school tomorrow. :scared1:

We hope everyone enjoyed the nice long weekend!! :woohoo: :yay:

All I have to say is Miami 38 - FSU 34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Canes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And what a game it was tonight.

Chuck:cool1:

Reminder: Between Diversions and the Ariel screen. there will be plenty of football on the ship...

Man, mention numbers, go away for a weekend and it is 10 pages later...

Wendy, packing already? be serious...:) ....we will start packing the night before we drive to the port...

Now I am too wired to sleep....what a football game...

Chuck:cool1:

I probably would have already started packing/organizing too if I didn't have a few other things first. We're going to do MNSSHP when we go (our fourth year, I think). I am ready. Now I just have to make sure DS is well rested so we can go until he drops.

Glad to see that everyone seems to have had a good Labor Day!

Hi Guys, Up early for school today and I had a minute. We live in the Hudson Valley Region of New York. Really small town called Pine Bush. So if anyone needs anything from New York, I'd be more than happy. Going to the Titantic museum in a couple weeks. I know, just before the cruise, right? :lmao::lmao: Can't wait though, as I find it all very interesting.

Elsie

Good morning everyone! Gotta love those 4 day weeks at work. Starting mine off with a meeting about 1 3/4 hr away. Going to the D.C. suburbs. The traffic is HORRIBLE and I'm not looking forward to it. Really looking forward to our cruise and it seems to be our topic of conversation when the 4 of us are together.
