Thanks that is where I shop!

If all you have had is tuna from a can do yourself a favor and get a tuna steak. It can be grilled, broiled, or pan seared but the best tuna is seared on the outside and still almost raw but warm in the middle.

Once you have real tuna the canned stuff becomes inedible.

Oh, I disagree (and love seared tuna, as well as tuna sushi). I like tuna in a can, even though it tastes NOTHING like a tuna steak.

Not that I ever thought tuna from a can was edible.

I doubt the OP's 16 month old child cares if their tuna is fresh and seared or comes from a can. Just as long as mommy makes it yummy  ;);););)

Probably not good for a baby, but I eat mine with vinegar. Just splosh a bit in, mix it around and eat in a sandwich. Preferably with cucumber. Yummy.

Also I love seafood but tuna really isn't my favourite fresh - I actually prefer the canned variety (and there is NO other seafood that I would want canned!).

Inedible? I don't agree. You probably never liked canned tuna in the first place.

I love grilled tuna steak (soy and sesame seeds, please), but tuna fish for sandwiches is a completely different texture and flavor. They're not interchangeable and frankly, I like canned tuna for sandwiches.

You're going to start a grill just to make a sandwich for lunch? Not convenient at all.

Plus, it's not economical to feed a family fresh tuna steaks for lunches. Fresh tuna is very expensive compared to canned tuna.

I just wanted to second the recommendation for Vegenaise. Both of my kids are allergic to eggs and this is what we keep in the house. DH and I prefer it over regular mayo. I have tried the Nayonaise in the past and did not care for it as much.

I forgot to post that my kids like tuna with I add and egg and a little bread crumbs and then fry it in a pan in patties. They love those!

This is a great Asian Tuna Patties recipe. It doesn't even taste like "tuna" when it's blended & cooked. :thumbsup2 (I leave out the Teriyaki sauce as I don't have any.)

Ingredients:
2 (6 ounce) cans tuna, drained and flaked
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
3 green onions, minced
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions:
1. In a large bowl, mix tuna, egg, bread crumbs, green onions, and garlic. Blend soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, and pepper into the mixture. Form the mixture into about 6 patties approximately 1 inch thick. Lightly sprinkle each patty on all sides with cornmeal.

2. Heat oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Fry each patty about 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

Just to be clear, Follow Your Heart is the maker of Vegenaise, so that's good news that they have it at your grocery store!

And expensive. Plus I doubt her kid wants a seared tuna sandwich.

Plain greek yogurt with a touch of Dijon mustard...

That's what I have been doing when I want a "creamy" tuna fish sandwich as I am trying to lose weight.

I do something that I have never seen anyone else do, but it is so good. I add cream cheese to mine. It looks like tuna salad and is creamy. It tastes so good on wheat bread. It sounds weird but it gives the tuna a nice zing.

Put the tuna in a food processor with a chopped up MacIntosh apple. The juice from the apple keeps the tuna from being dry, and it adds to the flavor.

I made tuna salad for my dd6 this week. I hadn't made it in a long time, it was yummy, and I thought of buying more tuna. I remembered that mercury might be a problem with tuna, so I did a search, and sure enough... I bought canned salmon instead.

If you are going to feed tuna to a child that young, use the light and not the white. Here's a good article on the topic...

That sounds good. I would have never thought of it.
