Is it safe to rent off Tug? Are there things I can look into to verify the rental or the rental person? I have a great offer for a DVC rental and would like to proceed, but am worried, of course! Any tips? Thanks

They have a section on tug that tells you how to proceed with rentals and I think that part is free.

would trust tug - even brought a timeshare off of their site.

timeshares users group is what it stands for.

now if there is $95 charge it is not a dvc owner - but someone who traded to RCI and now can't use that week. These can't be changed

If you run into that situation, stay away from it.

Renting RCI exchanges is prohibited by both RCI and DVC rules. If either RCI or DVC find out, they will cancel the reservation and you will arrive with no place to stay and no recourse.

Loin Tug2.net and you can go to the timeshare marketplace and see what is available for a particular resort that you want. People that are renting have ads there with the amount of money, etc. You send them an email through the timeshare marketplace and they will get in touch with you.

Another thing you can do through Tug is place a Wish Ad. When you join Tug you get to place a number of free Wish Ads and renters will contact you by email.

I will be going to Bonnet Creek on 7/9 for 2 weeks in a 2-bedroom through a renter I found through Tug. I was nervous at first because it was my first time renting, but the dealings I had with the owner were great, besides that, I got such a great price.

If things go the way I think they will, I made a new friend for life. I will rent from him if possible every time I go to Florida.

Good luck and join Tug. They even have something called the Bargain Basement where you can find last minute deals.

TUG is a pretty safe place to rent. The site owner (Brian) and moderators would never stand for a member scamming people there. But there is the potential that one could sneak in.

But it is also a community of users. If you have an offer to rent, go over to the bbs side; it works just like disboards. Search for a few posts from the user that made you the offer, you can get a pretty good feeling about whether they are legitimate by their posts on the site. Not every renter there participates in the bbs so it may not be totally indicative, but many do.

Agree with all of the above about TUG. In many ways, it's a smaller, tighter community than the DIS.

Not always as polite and well-mannered as the DIS, but it is a great place, and I would have no reservations about renting there.

I am a regular contributor in the Tug BBS forums. It is as safe as any other rental site such as MyResortNetwork or Redweek. With any timeshare rental, you have to be mindful and do your due diligence. The advice to check out the member in the forums, if they participate, is a good one.

Glad to read about MyResortNetwork listers, as I rented from two different owners listing on there for my upcoming trips (Shelby Resorts for my Sept trip and Aaron Washburn for our Dec trip) and was a little concerned.
