Tubes at SAB

There is a section of SAB that is called 'Rising Sands'. Water jets would raise the sand from the bottom of the pool in this area. It hasn't been working for awhile now, and it sounds like this is due to some new regulation where LifeGuards need to be able to see to the bottom of the pool. That probably isn't too easy when the water has sand 'blowing' through it, so they had to shut down the rising sands pool feature. Don't worry - the sandy bottom is still there!

That's my guess anyway! :)

We're still looking at tubes.

Calypso a go go-- we'll be there the last week in October too. Maybe we'll see you.

Thanks again,
Julie

Julie -- Hope to see you there as well !!!

We just got back in May. I bought the translucent 30' blue shaded inner tubes at Walmart. I think they were $1.88 each. That was as close to clear as I could find. They worked fine and the lifeguards had no problem with them. I saw several small children that had small tubes that were all sorts of colors, and no one said anything to them about not using them.

We had an opaque tube last month. They asked that we not use it after dark, for safety reasons. It was fine during the day.

We just returned from BCV's on 07/05/04. Took our own tubes which I purchased on the web site: pooltoys.com They have clear ones with seat built in. Several guests wanted to know where they could get them. They worked great.

I hope you didn't pay 17 bucks each! :earseek:

They were saying that these changes were lifeguarding regulation changes, not resort changes. That is why the rising sand is gone as well.

I wonder how long ago those regulations changed because the sinking sands area of Stormalong Bay hasn't worked right for YEARS. That was our favorite part of that pool when we visited in August 2000, but when we returned the following year, that feature was not working. When I asked a lifeguard, I was told that the pump had been hit by lightning and that they were in process of repairing it. Call me a doubting Thomas, but I would like to see the regulation that caused Disney to shut off the sinking sands and the part of the pool with the bubbles.

Sandy bottom or not, Stormalong Bay is not nearly as fun as it used to be.

The deal with rising sands is that they've had problems with it and have completely shut it off. They officially shut it off while i was a CP lifeguard there in the fall of 03. They also had tons of problems with the area called "bubbles" which was in its own little section near the slide exit and that is completely shut off as well.

I liked that "bubbles" section when we were there in 2003. We didn't swim long since DS was more comfortable in the quiet pool but I wondered if that was part of the lazy river portion of the pool. Does Deb's site or any other have good info. on SAB?

Got ours too! WooHoo! Lazy river here I come!

Just back. Wouldn't let us use our 36 inch tubes I bought at target. They were translucent blue. :(

We rented a tube. The girl was nice and let us keep it longer than an hour without charging us more. She also loaned us a noodle. Turns out we weren't crazy about the lazy river part. Too deep and way too slow.

Can you use pool noodles at Luna or the quiet pool?

And what about SAB? After Lenshanem's experience at SAB (not being able to use her blue tubes from target) I'm looking for cheap alternative to use at SAB. WOndering if these are allowed at LP pool (since we move there after BCV). If not -- I'm sure we could find a BCV benefactor...

THanks!

twotoohappy: Did you get the totally clear tubes? The website says they are temporarily out of stock. Also, how big is the package they came in? We are just going to use carry-ons for our next visit and have limited space. Thanks!
