We're staying at Pop in September. I've already requested a special needs room. I've looked at the sticky about HA rooms and the pictures.

My question is: are there special needs rooms WITH a tub? My BF uses crutches, but prefers to bathe with a tub rather than a shower chair. He would need one with rails.

Got an answer! Spoke to customer services and was informed that all tubs at the Pop have handrails and that if I specifically requested a shower stall I would be accomodated. Thanks anyway!

Yes there are. If you ONLY ask for an accessible room, you'll get one with grab bars and a tub. If that isn't sufficient, one should ask for an accessible room with roll in shower to get the roll in shower blocked for you. It can never hurt to call Special Reservations to make sure they have the correct roomtype blocked for you (instead of checking in and finding out they changed it to a roll in shower room).

Ok, I'll do that! Thanks for the info!

That tubs have handrails at Pop Century is truely misleading. All tubs have a slanted handrail to grab at the back of the tub in the wall but they do not have full handrails around the tub. If a handrail at the back is sufficient fine but I don't think they are made to bear the weight of a person entering and exiting the tub.

Oh no! I'm going to have to discuss this with BF.

Anyone have pics? It may help with the decision if we knew what we were thinking about. I don't want to take a room with a roll in shower, someone else may need it.

Oh yeah, that's what I was looking for! I'll have to share with BF and have him decide. Thanks for the help!

Those tub rails are meant for support. I don't know what the highest weight they can support is, but if he is of average weight or less, it should not be a problem.
I'm not sure if you looked originally in the sticky thread that has room measurements or if you looked in the disABILITIES FAQs thread. There is a description of the various types of handicapped accessible rooms in the disABILITIES FAQs thread. I'm curious if you looked and were not able to find the information in the FAQs (if you looked and didn't find it, I need to change something). Thanks.

SueM, I went to the sticky that had all the pictures of the handicapped rooms at all the different resorts. I looked specifically at the post about the rooms at the Pop. All of those featured had the roll in shower, none with the tubs. Perhaps I overlooked the information on a different sticky, but that's where I thought the best answer would be found.

You missed where it was; it is in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
I am thinking that I might just unstick the one you looked in. It was there so people would find that thread and post pictures/descriptions there.
Or maybe, I will add some information to the thread about the different resorts so that people know to look in the FAQs thread.

That is because these are not handicapped rooms but regular rooms. None of the handicapped rooms at the Pop Century have tubs. Found this out when I stayed at the Pop the first time.

ok, so I went back to the FAQ sticky and have determined that I need a type I room: tub with grab bars. But then I read Talking Hands post and I'm really confused! :scared:

I went through AAA for my reservation. I'm going to call my agent, explain the situation and hope she can help me too.
