TSM standby-less test Oct. 6-9

Hope you have a great time. Universal today is in many ways what Disney was in the past...unfortunately what is becoming a distant past. They're continually adding attractions and giving their guests new experiences to enjoy rather than just continually trying to find more ways to squeeze money out of their customers while giving them the same product...or even less of a product. The theming in Harry Potter areas is second to none. The hotels are pretty amazing as well. Best part of all...you can go there and enjoy a relaxing vacation without having to schedule every meal and attraction in advance.

Great description of exactly our recent visits on Universal.

We are long time lovers of WDW, and still think of it as our comfort zone for vacations. It is a magical place.

Well, guess what, so is Universal. And they are winning in so many fronts: resorts, new grand attractions, ride line theming, front of line pass, employee attitude to the public, lack of in your face "spend more money" pitches.

We will continue to go to and love Disney for many years, as they cash in on our emotional investment. But, guess what, Universal is g-r-r-r-r-reat!

Two thumbs up!
Have to say when I first took my kids to Dinoland USA I was pretty disappointed...WDW missed a huge opportunity there. Was a big let down and pretty much sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of theming with the rest of the park in my mind.

I'm pretty confident Disney is not going to build carnival type rides. I just think getting all up in arms at this point is a little premature.

Disney, at least in my book, has a great track record for building great family rides. I fully expect that to continue. I see no reason to go over the edge just yet.

They built SB Circus and Dinoland.

I think this sums up many of the comments on WDW's FB page:

"Shannon Campbell....We WANT you to succeed.....We want to visit the park...."

It's not a pretty thread :(

I think this is why threads like this have such a life. We all are invested emotionally in Disney, and we want them to be the best, to be successful. We take it so personally when Disney doesn't seem to care anymore about anything except money.

They are messing horribly with OUR Disney World, a place we eagerly anticipate taking our children and grandchildren to someday.

Okay, now ya'll try to keep this under your hats but I was just forwarded proof of a super-secret ride prototype that was spotted on the back lot of HS undergoing testing:

Try not to get too excited.......

At WDW now. Did not make a FP+ for TSM because we usually go first thing at opening with no issues. Also, did not know about this change. I read somewhere that more FP times have been added, but I have not been able to score any. Very sad. Addressing the other topic in this thread: we've spent more time at US/IoA this week than Disney...and that was not our original plan. Having a wonderful time!

Why pay castmembers when you can use paying guests?

Actually we hardly ever got paid to do after hours testing. I did it for pre-guest roll out of FP+ and I had friends who did it for 7 Dwarfs memory maker testing as well as Tower of Terror memory maker testing. We were always told it was 100% volunteer and that we would riding the attractions several times.

It looks like wdw Facebook post about fastpass tips down...almost all negative posts...execs should be squirming!

Almost all the posts on there are negative. If you were to go on the parks Facebook page before a visit you would probably thing it will be the worst vacation your family ever had.

Yes...I have a feeling that if they thought they could get away with it they would just attempt to alter visitors psychology to the point where they would just mindlessly send money to Disney without expecting anything in return. Perhaps they should look into replacing Iger with Joel Osteen. :lmao:

I'm really upset by the idea that ANY rides would lose standby availability. It's ridiculous to go to a park and have some times that are "sold out" and you can't go on.

Give less FP to make room for standby.

If I encounter this during our November trip, it'll be our last.

Am I clear in understanding that FP is still only for resort guests? If so, day-of and off sure guests are not permitted to even gamble on a chance to ride TSMM?

As a resident, I've only ever done say trips. This is our first on site stay OR multi day trip.

But now, if a day trip is your only option, why bother..? Just stay home.

It's not. Those staying onsite can make FP+ reservations 60 days in advance, offsite guests can make them 30 days in advance.

This and many other FP FAQs are answered in the green link in my signature.

Aha. I haven't done a day trip since back in the paper FP data so I wasn't sure.

I'm still saddened by the idea of any ride turning kids away. :(
