TSM question: how quickly does the line increase

I have a weird question. My friend is going to DHS next Thursday (9 of 10 on the crowd predictor) but can't make it to rope drop because of a convention breakfast. She and her friend will probably get to the park about 10(?). They plan on leaving around 4:30pm. They are 2 young and agile adults.

I am trying to give her some tips. I told her to go directly to TSMM to see if there are any FASTPASSes left. If there aren't, she needs to decide if this ride is worth the wait to her. :confused3

My question is this: If FPs are all gone, should I encourage her to zip over to RR and get a FP for that before getting in the Standby line for TSM? How much will the wait time increase while she does this? (at about 10 or 10:30am) Would it be better to tell her to get right in line?

My logic was that then she could ride RR and grab a FP for ToT and have those main headliners done and then be able to focus on shows, etc.:cool1:

What do you think?

Oh my other question: Do the reader boards with wait times on them show when FP are gone? Is there one at the front of the park?

There may still be fastpasses left. I would encourage her to get one of the wait time apps like Lines for her phone. If FP is available, return times will be later in the day. The line builds pretty fast- I am usually in the front of the RS crowd, by the time I get off the line to GET a FP is backed up to One Mans Dream, and standby is out the door wrapped around the building.

Does she have an iPhone? She can get the Lines app (she'll have to subscribe to TouringPlans.com) and then get a good idea of if there are FPs left and what the return and wait times are when she gets to the park.

I say your suggestion about going there first to get fastpasses is best. We were there in September (low crowds) and all fastpasses were gone by 10:45. :goodvibes

Ok, for the sake of argument, let's say fastpasses are gone, or at least too late of a return time when they get there.

Should they then get in the standby line, or first run and get a Rockin roller coaster FP and then stand in line at TSM? Do you think that 15 minutes will make much of a difference in the wait time?

We were there today, a 3.7 out of 10 on the crowd calendar and we got to the park around 10:30. I was able to get fp's for tsmm, but the return time was 5:30-6:30. I would imagine in her case they'd be gone by then. I would get there, fp rocking roller coaster, ride tot or the reverse depending on single rider wait times and do standby for tsmm.

This. After the line forms for TSMM, it stays pretty consistent until the end of the day.

If Fp are gone its a matter of HOW long the wait is on standby. It can be anywhere from 60-240 mins( and yes I have seen it 240 mins over Christmas week).TSM is the most popular ride at DHS and lines start building for it at opening and pretty much remain that way all day..sometimes right before park closing the line thins enough to ride it without a huge wait, but for a projected crowd level of 9 out of 10.Its going to be CRAZY busy

Thank you all for your replies! It just occurred to me that this might be a moot point. The convention they are attending lists a Private Event at DHS at 7 pm on Wednesday. In the past the Wed. night event was a dinner on the beach at Beach Club. I think the event "might" be not just a dinner, but rather a chance to see DHS after hours, similar to the Pampered Chef event that glennbo tells about in his trip report. If that is the case, they won't need to go to DHS on Thursday.
