TSA Worker Ridiculed for His Body Scan Image

Count me in as one who strongly objects to full body scan. I am very modest--it's hard for me to even put on a bathing suit in public. And then it's with a cover-up. So I definitely don't want to get virtually naked for the perusement of TSA. I would certainly want the option of having a personal pat-down by a person of my gender or give a drug dog a chance for a sniff. And I don't think one should have to pay extra for it either. Yes, air travel is a privilege, but I don't think I should have to get naked just so I can pay big bucks fly to Seattle.

I didn't suggest you pay extra for opting out. I suggested awarding a discount to those who opt in. Everyone else pays the regular fare. No added fee. But if you agree to the expedited screening with the body scan, maybe they give you a $25 discount or something.

It's just a suggestion, and that way air travel remains accessible to all.

I think full body scans are not necessary. And it's just been proven to be used as an evil tool. And not even for the good of the people.

People who want to blow up a plane are going to do so. Even the 9-11 guys went to flight school to learn how to fly a plane, spent years and years studying how we operate things. Just because we've heightened security getting on a plane doesn't mean they won't find ways around it.
They'll work for the airlines or the airport, learn the ins and outs, then act. Stupid people like the shoe bomber are just trying to get attention to make headline news.

An evil tool not for the good of the people? Did you really say that? I'm not sure whether to laugh or comment because you couldn't possibly be serious

Of course there are ways around it, of course full body scans will not prevent every single attempt to blow up an airplane. Nobody is saying that this will be the end of air plane bombings. The idea that we shouldn't do (insert your chosen security measure) because it won't prevent every possiblilty is naive. We need to do what we can, and full body scans are one tool in the prevention of terrorism.

This bothers me. The system should be set up in such a way for genitals are not visible on screen, and the system would be able to flag what is seems to think is suspicious matter in that area of the anatomy.

Also, do minors have to go through this system, too? Are TSA employees looking an the genitals of underage children?

See there's just too much that goes on with these sorts of systems... you can't trust the people walking through them or the people using them. It's just so disturbing.

I'm with flightless duck... every one dies.

And even from the religous point... if God already has it written in His book, who are we to try to change it? He knows the road we're going to take... we just to get to find out on the way there.

It bothers me too. I wonder what becomes of the images after the scan. Who has access. Who can make hard copies? How are they stored. I'm pretty sure hard copies can be made, because of the article I read about a celebrity detailing how his scan was being passed amongst TSA workers. That's just so wrong on so many levels. There seems to be many issues with it.

I do believe in prevention of attacks. I don't care for this one (body scans) but overall I do believe in security.

I'm fundamentally ok with the scans, provided they make some changes. I don't think they are any more a problem than a medical scan. However, with medical scans our privacy is very strictly regulated with severe punishment to invasions of our rights. How come the people with access to these images aren't trained more thoroughly, at a higher level of clearance?

I do think the poor guy who was heckled by co-workers is justified in his anger. Maybe not in the attack but he was definitely provoked in a manner that should not have been allowed to happen. I hope he claims a crime of passion.

I do not think our most intimate physical characteristics should be accessible to a bunch of chuckle heads devoid of ethics, morality or even common sense. From what I can tell given the various stories that hit the screens, our countries TSA & TSO employs nothing more than a bunch of mean spirited bullies who mess with people at every chance they get without anyone to answer to, ever. Aren't they all outsourced anyway? Oh, and even better, these police wanna-bes on power trips have the full weight of our Government behind them, unchecked. Talk about a recipe for disaster. Good going

I wonder what the criteria is for one of these jobs? HS diploma and no felonies with a few measly hours one time only in training would be my guess.

SNL tonight had their "really" segment and it was saying shouldn't the TSA be looking for explosives instead of looking at each other's private parts like that?

Can I please carry a full size shampoo on the plane?
All this paranoia gets me down. I don't buy into it at all. Personally, I think we've totally caved to a bunch of non existent, stupid terrorists. This last guy couldn't even make a bomb-bought the wrong fertilizer, locked himself out of his vehicle and ....well he was just stupid. My life is being controlled by these guys for naught.

Violence and terrorism, sure, but not death. Everybody dies.

Still not following the logic. Of course everyone will eventually die. The original post I was referring to made reference to the attacks that happen, specifically on airplanes, and said violence, terrorism and death can never be prevented. They not only can but they have been prevented. We can't prevent every act of terrorism but I am not in favor of throwing my hands up in the air and quitting just because we are all going to die someday.

While I don't agree with all of the measures for security, I think national security is necessary. We can't put our heads in the sand and pretend an attack won't happen.

The terrorists do exist. They have had many failures before they had successes. The World Trade Center is a prime example. They had tried for years to bring it down. The key is they learn from their mistakes. Our national security needs to learn from their mistakes also. I think it's important not to broadcast what they did wrong. It only helps their learning curve. It certainly doesn't help us.

We need body scans like they had in the movie total recall. Remember this:
