TSA program could ease lines at OIA

The sad part is I don't think they committed to doing ANYTHING in this article.

ALL LANES should be open at peak times. There is just no excuse for anything else besides POOR planning... (Sorry, but having talked to some screeners over the years planning is NOT a TSA strong point. I have flat out asked some Supervisors if it occures to them that Monday morning would be busy and the guy said "we have to staff all mornings the same way" HUH... so Wed with half the traffic at BNA had the same number of screeners as Monday???)

Carol--I read it the same way you did. All they really did is acknowledge the problem. Fly Clear certainly speeds up passengers that are on the TSA's no fly list and otherwise would be subjected to secondary screening but I don't really see what else it does to speed up screening. TSA would have to be willing to have a different metal detector setting and maybe even not check the computers of FlyClear passengers before we'd see any efficiency from the Fly Clear program.

There was an article expressing concern that the vast number of passengers in the terminal waiting to clear security could make the unsecured part of the airport a terrorist target.

Staffing all the lanes during peak travel time seems obvious to us but not to the TSA. If it was just an issue of not having enough lanes TSA could experiment with pre-clearing DME passengers somewhere else, probably on airport property, but the problem seems to be with staffing.

BTW, is it my imagination, or has the ID check at MCO been moved closer to the machines sometime this year?

I seem to remember that last summer when flying SWA, I went past the id check nearly immediately, but then snaked around a lot of ropes before getting to another person who told me what machine to approach. The last time I was at that concourse, about 6 weeks ago, the bulk of the line seemed to be before the ID check, and was now straight and extending out by the fountain. Once I reached the ID check the line of machines was now right past it, with few ropes.
