TSA precheck

If you have already booked flights, can you add your TSA #?

Yes. I did it for two different flights that were purchased prior to going for the interview, one on Delta and one on the former USAirways. I did it on-line, under the manage your flight (or whatever its called) section. There is a field to add in your KTN, very easy.

Just a heads up that Precheck closes at MCO at 8:30pm. I found out the hard way!

Have received pre check "random" last 2 flights that we took both ways! Was NICE!:thumbsup2

For those who have already signed up...how difficult is the process?? I made an app't tmr for myself and our kids (hubby going another day). Already filled out the form on-line hoping to make it go quicker. Is it an in-and-out sorta deal? Just curious what to expect in trying to prepare my autistic son. TIA:lovestruc

We got the Global Entry card last year and the interview is easy. Just walk in and chat a bit with the agent. No stress at all.

We have Global entry and the interview was very easy. I don't remember the agents asking me or my husband any questions at all. If they did, it was very basic. I was focused on my son, who was 9 yo at the time and super nervous (just his nature).. The agent chatted him up for a while and asked him about all the stamps in his passport.

The biggest deal, so to speak, was getting his finger prints. He had trouble positioning his fingers on the scanner but the agent was very patient and worked with him. Afterwards, they gave him candy and the booklet with our KTNs in it.

They ask if you've ever been convicted of a crime and they take your fingerprints.

Thank you everyone for your help!

Yes, it's the FINGERPRINTS I'm worried about with my autistic son. Either he will think it's fun, or he will have a meltdown. It says on the site that they will be accommodating....so hopefully it'll all work out! :thumbsup2

The fingerprint thing is very easy. No ink involved. Just place your fingers on a glass plate for a few seconds while they are scanned.

We're back and all set! My son did better with the fingerprints than I did!! His worked on the first try....I had to try THREE times!!

Thanks everyone! I'm thrilled and can't wait for our next trip!! :yay:

Pre-Check is definitely worth the cost IMHO, except perhaps for those who travel only a few times a year. It has saved us quite a bit of time at MCO (the lines there are always incredibly long) as well as our home airport but also in several other busy airports such as O'Hare, LAX and Newark. We lucked out on our last Disney trip, departing from PHL. We seemed to hit a brief lull at security and didn't really need Pre-Check to move through quickly. But that has been a rare event.

I would especially suggest that it is very beneficial for those traveling with young children, senior citizens and those with special needs. Seniors sometimes are chosen through the airline (my mom has been selected several times), but that's not guaranteed.

I thought (and I could be wrong) that children up to age 12 are included on the traveling parent's TSA pre-check. I have Global Entry and when I fly with my children they automatically receive TSA Pre-check. Now that isn't to say that you can't get selected for "Special treatment." When we flew to MCO from DCA my daughter was selected for special processing. Normally not a big deal but for an Aspie it is. She started crying. TSA went nuts. "Why is she crying?!?" They decided to do the hand cotton swab test on me instead.

We just enrolled in TSA PreCheck. We had several flights already booked including international as well as domestic. When we received our KTNs we went to the websites of the relevant airlines and added those numbers to our profiles. No problem at all.

We signed up earlier this year and love it. It breaks down to $17 a year. We have flown 8 times since signing up and have always used it. Yes, children 12 and under can go with you in the precheck line. 13 and up need to register. We have flown out of mco, bwi, dca and iAd which all have precheck. Some smaller airports do not have it. Plus not all airlines participate, like Frontier. I got my number in 24 hours and my husband took a week. You can check the status on line. I was able to update my accounts with SW, Jetblue and United online. I was also able to add it to existing tickets myself, except SW. I had to call and get an agent to add the numbers to our existing tickets.

Call up the airline and they will add it to your reservation. If it is less than 24 hours, you have to do it at the airport counter. If that is the case, I guess you have to weigh out the lesser of the two evils.
