TSA PreCheck, questions

How old were the kids at that time? Was Pre on their boarding pass? Policy is that kids under 12 can go through with a parent/guardian that has Pre. It used to be that if anyone in the reservation had Pre, everyone was likely to get it. I don't know if that is still the case or not.
Up until the kids were 17 & 18 it would randomly show up on one of their boarding passes at online check-in, at that age we then got them their own so I don't know if it would have continued. I never got comped for it with him though, it was only ever one of our children.

When did the renewal fee for TSA PreCheck drop? The online renewal fee was $85, when I renewed a little over two years ago.

FYI, if you have a CapitalOne Venture card of any type, or an Amex Platinum, or a Chase Sapphire Reserve card, it will pay you back up to $100/yr for TSA Pre or Global Entry fees charged to the card. DH & mine are the same year so we don't get it totally paid for, but the kids are staggered into different years, so those are taken care of for me.

I don't fly enough to make PreCheck worth it. But I did upgrade to Business Select on a Southwest flight once when I had a tight connection from a bus in Nashville. It only cost me $20 to upgrade, which allowed me to skip the security line (still had to go through regular security, just didn't have to stand in line). Took me about 10 minutes from the Uber dropping off to my gate, including checking my bag and a restroom stop. And I got a free drink voucher with the upgrade. Just another option for infrequent flyers to consider.

I filled out my online application on Thursday, had my appointment yesterday at 10am and already received my known traveler number today! Looking forward to skipping the lines at Chicago Midway, they were horrible last time we flew and we just made our A boarding and we arrived 2 hours before our flight.

There are many cards that cover this. It is as far as I know a $100 credit every 4 or 5 years. Some of the cards, the AMEX Platinum and Navy Federal Flagship cards specifically, also give this credit to Authorized Users.

We did both this and Global Entry because to do both at once is both cheaper and easier.
It made flying so much easier and if it makes law enforcements job easier too, so be it, just record the number so you have it when you travel there is a prompt I think - it's been a while.

I did TSA precheck first and then a few months later did Global Entry as we were flying international and I wanted GE for when we returned. Global Entry includes TSA precheck so I let TSA precheck expire and just renewed Global Entry.
