I will be okay with removing my post with your quote if that is what you are asking...but I'm not sure...

so clarify and I will delete if that is what you would like.:goodvibes

True.. A much shorter interrogation..:thumbsup2 Out of all that though, the thing that stuck in the forefront of my mind was that dog sitting on her lap - and what kind of screening it would require now..LOL..

I don't think I heard (or read) about the person in Atlanta that you're speaking of.. Are you saying that he flew into the airport in Atlanta - having already been screened in the airport that he departed from - and they wanted to screen him again in order to walk out of the airport?

Why? :confused3

I can tell you that. My home airport is Atlanta.

Here's the process if you are coming from another country:

-You get off the plane and go through immigration to get your passport reviewed/stamped
- You then go and pick up your checked luggage if you checked any
- Then you go through customs
- Then if you have checked luggage you put that on another conveyer belt and that either goes on to your next flight or to the regular baggage claim where you have to pick it up again
- After you drop off your luggage you do have to go through TSA screening once more before entering the main terminal

Basically, the TSA does not think that all airports around the world have their standards so they screen you again. Atlanta's a major hub so often people are connecting to other flights.

It's a pain, but they are building a new international terminal so I hope they streamline this process.

I mean removing the parts where people are talking about being reminded because it is hurtful, it implies that if people are not behind what is happening right now with the TSA we've somehow forgotten what happened that day, and it couldn't be further from the truth. My fear gave way to anger and now I'm more interested in defiance of the way they have changed my world. That doesn't mean softening, it's more of a hardening KWIM

Agreed - but this only happens if you are entering the main terminal up here, in other words, if you are staying in the gate area to board another flight. Are you saying that you have to go through the TSA screening even if you are leaving the terminal after customs? That is just silly. :upsidedow

MCO was this way in 2004 as we did the same thing when we returned from London (direct flight to MCO). I think if the airport has a dedicated terminal for international traffic, that may not have to happen, but I cannot remember. I just remember asking why we did all of that. (ETA: Back then, the international flights arrived at a terminal shared with domestic passengers).

But since the passengers can now have ready access to other domestic flights, it is best for the passenger to go through that process b/c as you said, the our country cannot guarantee that inbound international flights have been screened to the TSA standard.

For clarity - you don't believe that we are any safer flying today than we were on 9/11?

I thought I clarified this earlier today - but maybe you weren't on the thread at that time - or maybe it got lost in the busy shuffle here today..:)

Yes - I believe we are safer than we were on 9/11.. Definitely.. Shortly after 9/11 I had no concerns in regards to safety and have flown maybe 8 or 9 times since then? (Possibly more? I lost track..) I felt perfectly safe - with the measures that were put in place after 9/11 - and if I had flown the day before the new enhanced security measures were put in place I would have felt equally safe and secure..

Now we have these new security measures that have people jumping through hoops; people who can't fly now (for a variety of reasons); passengers being treated as criminals with no probable cause (on a random basis) - and if I were to get on a plane tomorrow, I would not feel one iota safer than I did several weeks after 9/11 and prior to what is required now..

Short version - safer than on 9/11 - no safer with the new measures that have recently been put in place..

Cool - Thanks - for the most part, I agree. We may be a little safer with these new measures, but I am not sold that they offer enough additional protection to warrant the intrusion or cost. Then again, I don't know what our government isn't telling us about threats today.

Well in truth--no....so you don't want me to delete my post?

(I have a cold and it has been a long day so I'm a bit off...:lmao: I'm having a who's on first moment--and I hope noone will be offended by that...)

OK, then don't remove anything at all, now I regret deleting my response to you.

Now you got me wondering what you said. I didn't mean to cause a firestorm. I'm not trying to be dense on purpose.:confused3

I was trying to respond to the 9/11 stuff without upsetting people and now you have me wondering if I have upset you.:guilty:

Yes, even if you are just leaving the terminal. There is no way for them to know your terminating point or people could lie.

Sure there is - a separate walkway away from customs that takes you to the baggage area/exit.

sigh... ok, it seems we are having a failure to communicate Lisa loves Pooh.

I call truce:flower3:

I was under the impression that you go through security again because you've had access to your checked luggage. Otherwise, what would prevent you from checking it on the first flight, stopping and pulling out something prohibited on the 2nd flight ?

It also depends on your final destination. If you are going somewhere that has customs and immigration, you don't get your checked luggage and stay in a secure area. You are not required to go through security again.

That's now how the airport is currently laid out.

As I mentioned they are building a new international terminal so I hope that will help with this process.

Not sure about your first point but I also see signs around the airports talking about security at other international airports where they don't think it is up to standard.

I have never seen this. Now, my final destination is always Atlanta so not sure if I would notice, but everyone seems to be funneled the same way.

It is a pain tough and takes a long time to get through all of this!

Just to be clear - on a minor issue. Some airlines will provide oxygen canisters, for a price. So, folks who need these canisters are able to travel by air.

I looked at the list in the link and only saw one, not an American airline, so perhaps the list was not up to date.
