We are flying Southwest here in a few days and I understand the carry-on baggage policies for TSA and Southwest.

What is the policy for what you can pack in your "checked" baggage the baggage that is stored under the plane as far as aerosol hairspray and deoderant. Gel such as hair gel, hand sanitizer and shaving gel. Liquids such as perfume and cologne??????? Can you pack these items in a plastic zip-lock bag in the original containers they are sold in??

Also I take prescribed medication in the form of pills...I generally store these for the week in a pill organizer to track my usage. Can I transport this medication in my organizer or do I need to bring the original bottles from the pharmacy to show proof of the need to have with me ?????

Thanks.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yes and yes; if they are in glass PLEASE triple-wrap them in 100% sealable plastic bags, if you absolutely must bring these items. Then place the items in securely sealed plastic food storage containers such as ones with screw-top lids.

See www.tsa.gov for what's allowed, and what's not, in your checked luggage.

re: pills...my friend flew to Mexico with all her pills in her organizer, and she was fine. No one cared. This was pre-liver transplant, and, well, she took MORE pills back then than the pills she takes now to prevent rejection of her new liver...that's a scary number of pills.

However, when hubby travels, I've now started handing him either the receipt from the pharmacy or the printed and signed copy of the prescription info from his endocrinologist (the endo gives that to him, but calls in the prescription) for him to take. Just seems prudent, especially the walgreens receipt b/c it has a description of the pill on it.

I transport my pills in an organizer and carry them in my purse onboard the plane. Never any problems.

The PP's are correct. Please note, however, that there are some limitations on the KINDS of aerosols you are allowed to put in your checked baggage. The general limitation is that the substance must be designed to be applied to the human body.

Therefore, things like hairspray, spray deodorant, perfume, etc, are fine, but you can't take Lysol spray, spray starch, spray paint, WD40, etc. (You won't get in trouble if you pack those things, but if TSA finds them they will be confiscated.)

Please triple bag any liquids that you pack, and add an absorbent layer inside the bags. (The changes in pressure tend to make them leak, and you don't want to take the chance of ruining your own clothes or anyone else's.)
