Next week I can make a dining ressy for a solo trip I am making to HS on a saturday in May. I think I want to do a TS restaurant as a break mid-day. The only TS meal I have eaten at HS in the past is Sci Fi Diner. Now I am trying to decide where to go for a decent meal that will be ok as solo diner. Any suggestions? I am thinking Hollywood Brown Derby, but I am not sold on any place yet

We find it difficult sometimes to find a TS in HS. We've taken the boat down to YC/BC for Beaches & Cream or Ale & Compass for lunch. Boat ride or walk back and it makes for a lovely mid-day break.

Brown derby could be a great option! Usually 2-3 is a good time to eat a late lunch. I also tend to look at the lunch menus for the more expensive restaurants if they are offered as they often have a lower price point.

Also HBD outside lounge. They have a good menu and some have reported you can order from the inside menu. Don't need ADRs you just get on the wait list in MDE. Depending on the time of day, I've been able to walk right in. If you want to leave the park but not go to the BW, the Fountain at the Dolphin is a good little alternative to B&C. It's less expensive, again no ADRs needed.

On my last solo trip I had a great meal at Mama Melrose's... never seem to hear about this restaurant but I loved it...you can also get a Fantasmic package with it and not break the bank (relatively).

The Bacon and Cheddar burger at Ale & Compass is wonderful and well worth the boat ride 😋

I have never been too big a fan of TS at DHS...I consider Brown Derby to be the only one that's consistently decent so I'd recommend that one - not that SciFi, Prime Time, etc are BAD, they just don't stand out for me enough to be worth the booking. On DHS days, I tend to more often head to a nearby resort for a TS meal - the gondolas to Riviera can get you a very good meal at Topolino's, boat or walk to Boardwalk for 'bar' foods like Big River or italian at Trattoria, or some nice choices at Swan & Dolphin including Il Mulino. I'm personally looking forward to Rosa Mexicano at the Dolphin - I love Mexican and we could use a good upscale option at Disney...it's suppsed to open 'early 2023' but I haven't seen anything on the official date yet.

While Topolino's and Trattoria al Forno are both superb, IMO, neither is open for lunch, unfortunately.

Beaches and Cream is fun and has great soda shop-type sandwiches and drinks but would be incredibly crowded and terribly loud then.

I'd go with Ale & Compass at YC myself. The boat ride there is a nice cooldown and food very good usually. An upscale and relaxing atmosphere that doesn't draw lots of families with young kids if a bit of an escape seems desirable.

I somehow skipped over the reference to 'mid-day'! Apologies...ignore my dinner suggestions!

I still hold out hope Rosa Mexicano opens by then - that would be a great lunch meal for me - Mexican and margaritas.

I've done Brown Derby solo a number of times and find it a delightful break in the middle of the day. Good cocktails and wine list, terrific food, great service. They used to have a lunch menu with a burger and other lighter items that I wish they'd bring back but it's still my choice if dining in Hollywood Studios.

Personally I'd book wherever I want to eat without any regard to solo.

I agree that the DBD Lounge is a lovely place (if weather is nice) to sit for meal and drinks, enjoy the scenery. Baseline is fine but not table service and limited menu. If you want a bit more entertainment be a good time to try 50's Prime. Mama Melrose is dark, can be restful and great for a mid day big meal (I'd then be barely eating rest of day).

But basically pick the atmosphere and food you want without regards to being solo.

If it's midday, I'd opt for HBD Lounge. It's a great spot for people watching. An ADR to the actual restaurant would be my second choice if staying in the park.

Done multiple solo trips, eaten solo at Brown Derby at least 3 times, I get the Cobb Salad and an Ice tea. It comes w rolls with butter. The service has always been excellent. Plus the AC is always nice. Also have eaten at Mama Melrose before. Gone over to Boardwalk area and eaten before park hopping to Epcot. The QS at Riviera is super nice. I have taken the Skyliner over to there and ate too.

I was going to say this! I did the F! package in January when I was solo. Pretty good deal if you think you will be having the steak as your entree!

HBD for lunch and then Baseline Taphouse for the afternoon break.
If you do SciFi as a single, they will (at least have in the past) put others in teh remainder of your car.

I know this will be an unpopular comment, but I'm a solo who's been very comfortable eating at a wide variety of places, but I wasn't so thrilled at Brown Derby. Sci-Fi was definitely one of my favorites though-I'd consider going back there.

Hollywood Brown Derby is my favorite in-park restaurant in all of WDW. It's a great place to dine solo, especially if you fancy a cocktail or whiskey.
