Trying to stay positive

The refurb schedule isn't released for our April dates, but the odds are most of the same rides will be closed during those days. So it wouldn't make sense to change to April when the crowds and temps are higher. Not to mention, Southwest's flight options on our backup dates are pretty awful. So we'll only be changing to those dates if one of us gets sick right before our vacation.

Yip, I'd rather see all the refurbs in the cold than the heat. We don't have a back-up trip - we just had another trip planned for the week before the 60th kicks off. Pretty sure I'm going to cancel it. Why suffer the heat of LA with all those refurbs still happening?

Cuz its Disneyland, and its awesome!! Plus, they often get things up and running ahead of schedule. I used to love going before there was a whole entire second park! Who knows, maybe May won't be so terribly hot? If I had APs, I'd be there as often as I could afford it. Hope you go and have a great time! :thumbsup2

Yep, I also spoke to someone on the phone who confirmed it. Her name was Karen and she was really quite nice. (Though I think she may have given me some misinformation about a Winnie the Pooh meet and greet.)

Well, BOOOOOOOO!!!!

We have APs this year and this trip is a bonus for us (our big trip was in December). However, we were having some friends join us. I'm not sure it is worth their money if the castle and other things are down. I will give them the heads up and see if they still want to join us or not.

Thanks for the information. We will be back in April too (woot!) so I guess I should not be too sad... except its THE castle. I mean its not an E ticket but it is still a big deal.

Thanks for posting this list. It's a good thing I read it before I bought my tickets. I am going to cancel our 3 nights at Grand Californian. It's just too much money for our family to spend and have so many of the headliners closed. We are coming a long way and will spend our time exploring somewhere else in California. I'm totally bummed.

This may seem like a long list of closures, but it actually shouldn't be too bad. It is sad that some of the icon attractions will be closed, but there is still so much to do at Disney. This may give you a chance to experience attractions and shows you wouldn't normally take time to do, because of wanting to ride the other rides. Also half of those closures look like they are restaurants or meet and greets. I went to Disneyland last year when I was pregnant which meant I couldn't ride a lot, but I had fun walking around shops, riding kids rides and just enjoying the scenery. Also I had quite the appetite since morning sickness had subsided so I enjoyed eating different snacks throughout the day.

Sad that you are cancelling your Disney part of your trip, we discussed it, but it will cost to much.

Hope you still have an awesome time :thumbsup2

Because of all these refurbs, we changed our trip to the week before Memorial Day weekend.

We're hoping this will be a sweet spot where most of the refurbs will be finished but the crowds and heat won't be too terrible.

How about staying at a nice hotel off site? And money saved can go towards another trip, when the castle isn't tarped up, along with the other refurbishments being over.

In case anyone cares, It's a Small World may be under a tarp for a while too...however, the ride is still set to reopen on February 5th. It will just look ugly on the outside.

Where did you read that? Did it say how long?

May and June are not hot in SoCal. We can usually expect some lovely June Gloom to keep the temps down most of the day. It doesn't get super hot until the end of the summer and then it sticks around until October.

February and March are my favorite times to visit and I know to expect refurbs, but I really feel for those of you that are disappointed in the list of refurbs. I think it is an very long list and it's not like you're going to spend less money because of it. There's no reason that customers shouldn't complain when they don't get the experience that they paid for.

Just from a Disneyland blogger so I don't know if it's true or not. It's mostly under a tarp right now. So I think people are just assuming. Who knows.

Hot is kind of a relative term. To me, over 65 degrees is hot. :)

I heard the outside was looking kind of shabby and in need of a paint job. So perhaps that's what they are doing as they get the lights down. I wonder if that is one of the reasons the train will also be down...so they can paint around there.
