Trying to sit together!

I am wondering how I can purchase airline tickets for 3 seperate groups of people, and yet be able to sit together. I am flying to Orlando on a Sunday, along with my mom and dad. They are flying home that Thursday. My sister and her son are flying in on Friday, and we are flying home together on the next Monday. How do I go about getting seat assignments so that I am sitting with my parents on the way down, and with my sister on the way back? Do I need to call the airline directly? Or can I book thru a web-site and call and have our seats put together?

I normally buy my tickets on-line, but I am concerned about trying something like this. I am afraid that if I buy tickets for my parents I might not be able to get on the same flight. Am I crazy? What is the best way to do this?

what airline are you going to try to book with? I would think if you bought one way tickets for each leg youd be able to sit together.

Unless its Southwest , then it doesn't matter since you choose on the plane.

With JetBlue I bought a ticket to MCO one way and then bought 2 tickets back one way so my niece and I would be together. It was same price as R/T but if I bought R/T I didn't know hot to book the two of us together with her separate one way ticket.

Which airline? Most allow you to choose seats when you make the reservation. One problem maybe that frequently airlines change seating assignments, which may take the ones you choose away. Is there a reason if worse came to worse that you can't sit apart (like a small child)?

Well, I checked the one way tickets, and it is more expensive to do that. $170 each way or $270 round trip. But it was a thought.

No, there really is no reason we have to sit together, except that I don't want to. I have flown by myself a few times, and it is boring. It is just more fun to have your family with you, you know?

The airlines that are easiest to use from our local airport are Delta and Northwest. Northwest does not let you get your seat assignments until 2 or 3 months out, I forget which. Also, the trip I am trying to plan is for next October. Kind of far out, but I like to plan ahead. The only direct flights from our aiport are on Friday and Saturday, so we will have to make a connection too. Another airplane to worry about. I know in the scheme of things, sitting together is not such a big deal, but I am looking for a way to get tickets that will give me the best chance of that.

Now, based on the information you provided - I would say, buy the tickets whenever you like the price. Northwest actually sounds like the better choice for this: As soon as seats are assignable, CALL them with the various reservation numbers and ask for help with seat assignments.

We traveled with another family this past week. We each individually told the airline we wanted to be seated together when booking the trip. They only honored it if both parties agreed and made the request.

Delta is notorious for switching schedules & seat assignments. I think Northwest would be your better choice. I'd be careful booking this far out, with so many people involved, neither is easy to make changes with, they will charge you $50 or $100 each.
