I'm planning my first Disney trip for me and my gf for February, my question is regarding tickets. Through my work i can get 5 day park hopper tickets for $335 a pop, I've checked out undercover tourist and the Disney site and they appear to be more expensive. I'm just coming here to double check that i'm not missing anything on either of those sites or if i should get them through my work, thank you.

That deal is good as long as you are not planning to upgrade the ticket. If you might extend by a day, upgrade to annual pass or anything like that the ones through work are probably a convention ticket and likely can not be upgraded.

While comparing, I don't know if the work ones include tax but Undercover tourist prices include tax and Disney's site is before tax.

That price is with tax, and thanks for the info about not being able to upgrade. We're still in the preliminary stages of planning and may want to add an extra day so that info is definitely useful.

It is not necessarily true that the discounted ticket is a "convention" ticket. Last summer I purchased two adult 3-day park hoppers with special offer of 2 extra days free (actually 5-day park hoppers) for $327.41 each. They were purchased through work ("ticketsatwork.com") and my husband and I were able to use them to upgrade to annual passes. When we did the upgrade we were credited with the full gate price for the 5-day hoppers.

thats the same site i'm going through, that's interesting to hear about being credited full gate price for the ticket upgrade, thank you.

Just remember if you buy a discounted ticket - whether through work or AAA, etc. - go through the turnstile before upgrading if doing so. As soon as you go through the turnstile and use the ticket Disney recognizes it as full price and you will just pay the upgrade difference and the upgrade difference plus the discount difference.

Sorry I forgot to state that you MUST use the ticket before upgrading. We entered MK and went directly to Guest Relations and upgraded to annual passes and purchased a TIW card. Glad I could help.

I used this upgrade process August 2013, and it worked great. However, I believe they have eliminated price bridging. I don't know how their computer system can recognize how much each person paid after ticket activation, but this is a quote from mousesavers.com :

"Magic Your Way tickets that were purchased directly from Disney, either online or at a theme park window, and not as part of a Magic Your Way Vacation Package, whether partially used or not, are worth exactly what was paid for them as a credit toward an upgraded ticket or pass. If the price has gone up since the ticket was issued, that doesn’t matter; the ticket is still worth what it originally cost. Very rarely a cast member will “bridge” the price to the current gate price (see below), but you can’t count on it happening."

Does this seem to everyone here that you can't price bridge used tickets anymore, AND WDW computer system is capable of tagging each ticket with the actual price paid? Or, do I have this wrong. I always advise friends to buy the best discounted ticket they can get for as many days as they want, or less. Use the ticket, and then upgrade to the number of days they want. But now??????

I bolded the key term there for you- if you buy from a vendor, you are not buying directly from Disney. So they bridge tickets from vendors but not from themselves.

So they will still bridge tickets bought at a place like undercover tourist, or tickets that people can get at discounted prices from their company, or AAA and such?

Since this is a ticket-specific question, I'm going to move it over to the theme parks board. :)

much appreciated, i'm getting the feeling that the deal i'm getting is solid and probably the best i'm going to get

The ones thru work will always add tax after the $335 price.

Kind-of. We know that Disney Parks sells tickets that they own, directly from ticket booths and online/willcall/mail order. These tickets cannot be price-bridged.

Disney Parks sells regular MYW tickets to outside vendors at wholesale, such as AAA, UCT, Tickets at Work, etc. Those Vendors sell their tickets at discount retail. Disney knows what price they sold these tickets for at wholesale, but have no way to know what price the Vendor sold the ticket for at retail. That's why if you upgrade before using your discount ticket thru a turnstile, you are only credited with the wholesale price.

Here's something to add to your knowledge: Disney Parks sells to other Disney subsidiaries at wholesale, too. Disney Parks sells tickets wholesale to Walt Disney Travel Co (WDTC), which operates Disney resorts. These are Resort-purchased tickets, like package tickets. Disney Parks also sells tickets wholesale to The Disney Store (TDS) facilities. Since WDTC and TDS now own these MYW tickets, they are not considered tickets sold directly from Disney, and these tickets are allowed to be price-bridged.

Hope I haven't confused you. :confused3

great info, what did the upgrade to annual passes run you if you don't mind me asking.

Okay - if my notes are accurate it was an additional $555.94 (for two people). Total paid for the annual passes was $1210.76 ($654.82 for original discount tickets + $555.94 paid at time of upgrade).
