Trying to post on rent/trade

thanks wonder why he was still listed as a moderator - know now why - thanks - miss him. He was a wonderful person.

He was a wonderful person, and always helpful. He wrote the Rent/Trade Board maintenance program, as well as the DVC Planner and DVC Point Tracker programs that many DVCers have used. We have left his name as a Moderator as a personal tribute, though the user account has been deactivated for PMs. The program does not require the Caskbill user name, it uses "The DVC R/T Board" name for processing. And, unfortunately, we are looking at ways to go manual, as Microsoft has indicated that future Windows operating systems versons will not be compatible with the program VB6 code. It may not even work with IE9, we were able to alter settings and make modifications so it works with IE8.

No one is fully excluded from the R/T Board, unless they have completely lost R/T privileges due to their own actions.

Anyone may still read the rent/Trade board and reply to a Rent/Trade thread, they simply may not start a new thread.

The posting requirement is not limited to posting on the DVC boards, you may post to any of the many DIS boards. Many of the DIS boards boards are more opinion based, like the restaurant board, when someone asks for a restaurant recommendation. Or the Theme Parks board when asking about favorite attractions. Then there is the general Community Board, where there are all kinds of discussions.

You really don't need any vast DVC knowledge or insight to be a part of the overall DIS community. In fact, for some threads, you may not need any knowledge or insight or any kind. :rotfl:

Wait... there are other boards outside of the DVC boards? Since when? ;)

so as you say i can read but exculed from posting is that not exculed or is it half way:confused

You may post responses into existing threads, you may not start a new thread on the R/T Board. So, if you are looking for points or reservations, you are not excluded. If you are wanting to rent out your own points, you are excluded. Anyone that wants to use the R/T board to receive funds has to meet the requirement.

If for some reason people are unable to meet that requirement, there are other venues available to rent out their points, including the R/T Board sponsor, David's Rentals, ebay, craigslist, TUG2.net and other fansites.

To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about the 50 post rule. As you can see, I'm not there yet, but will be soon. Generally though, I'm a lurker unless I have a strong opinion. I'm always more active when getting ready to plan a trip or when I've just come back and had some awesome experience...

I see the point of the rule, I really do, but I think it limits the definition of "active community member" to those who have more time than me. I've typically found that by the time someone posts a question I feel that I have a thoughtful answer for, 50 people have already stated their opinion (some more eloquently than I ever could) and I agree with them. So I've never felt the need to jump in and "echo" the sentiments with a "Yeah, ditto, what he said!"

I've only rented out my points once on the board... looking to do it again this year. But I guess I better "ditto" a little more...

You might want to read this thread again. Ditto or I agree mosts will not count. You can always use other sites to rent out your posts. On the board it is a matter of trust for a rental transaction. The boards reccomend looking at a DVC members to get an idea of the person they are going to send a large sum of money to. Without posts how is the potential rentee going to judge the character/personality of the person renting the points. What incentive does an very infrequent poster have for making an honest transaction (other than their own conscious). I guess the could just stop posting when word got out about a transaction gone wrong, but if they do not post often would they even care.

It really is not that hard to get 50 posts.

I have the same concerns as yapper79...

Anyway, question for chuck s....

For the rent/trade board, will the new rule effect posts from people seeking
points or just the people renting points? or All people who open a new tread?

Another question for Chuck S.

I would like to make a suggestion that the new posting requirements for the rent/trade be changed to a yearly point total rather then a 6 months total?

Why? Many of us work long hour for several months out of the year and we do not have time to post during many of those months.

Example: Teachers, accountants are just some of the careers that I am talking about.

I believe a yearly count would be more fair then a six months count.

The requirement is for all new threads, those seeking a reservation or a transfer may still reply into an existing thread with no minimum requirements.

Unfortunately, if we went to a yearly total, it would still need to be spread throughout the year...and we'd likely see exactly what we've seen so far, people posting, renting their points, and disappearing until they want to rent their points again. We understand that many folks may go 2 to 3 weeks, or a month or so without posting, we are looking for a pattern of continuity and contributing to threads over that 6 month period.
