Our family of four (40,40,19 &9) stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort in June, 2006 and have booked another stay in June, 2007. We stayed 10 days and we absolutely loved it.
I have shared the following information with numerous people. They say it helped them decide whether or not to stay at the CBR. So....here goes....
The CBR is a very large resort. We think this is part of the CBR's charm. Because the resort is spread out, so are the people which keeps you from feeling crowded in.
You will check in and check out at the Custom House. You will probably not visit the Custom House but those two times so it is not necessary to request a room near the Custom House.
It is also not necessary to pay the extra price for a preferred location. Jamaica is a wonderful village to stay in. Jamaica Building 41 is just a 3 minute walk from the Jamaica bus stop and just a 5 minute walk to Old Port Royale (the food court/arcade/store). Jamaica Room 4154 faced a beautiful courtyard. Building 41 is a very short walk to the Jamaica pool. (Maybe a minute)
The Jamaica pool was never crowded. Oftentimes, we were the only ones in the pool. The laundry facilities were right next door to the pool so we could swim while doing laundry. We didn't feel as if we were wasting our valuable vacation time doing clothes.
The Jamaica beach was swept daily and we never found any trash lying about. There were several hammocks and it was nice to watch the Epcot fireworks from the beach. There is also a small playground for the kids on the Jamaica beach.
Back to the rooms.....there were two double beds which were raised off the floor which was a nice area to store our luggage. There is a small nightstand in between the two beds. There is a small table and two chairs in the bedroom area. A large mirror hangs about the table.
The armoire holds the television and has three large drawers and two lingerie type drawers. The refrigerator is enclosed in a wooden cabinet and we used the countertop for storing our snacks and drinks we bought from home.
There is a padded bench with a deep drawer beneath in the bedroom area too. Above the bench is a coat rack/peg shelf. This was nice for hanging backpacks, bags, etc.
In the closet/sink area, there was a long countertop with two sinks. Beneath each sink was a small storage area. There is a hairdryer by the sink.
There is a long clothes rod with a long shelf above in the closet/sink area. There were about a dozen wooden hangerson the rod. The coffee pot was on the closet shelf and we moved it to the table in the bedroom. There is also an iron and ironing board supplied.
There is a very small slim safe in the closet wall.
The bathroom was small but immaculate. There were no loose tiles and no mold or mildew.
Housekeeping was great while we were there. We received four towel animals during our stay. We left the housekeeper a tip daily because of her great job.
We were pleasantly surprised by the food court, store and arcade. There were four food stations. One was a grab and go that sold sandwiches, bakery items, yogurt, fresh fruit, chips, salads, etc. There was a burger and chicken station, a pasta and pizza station, a veggie station and then there was the full service restaurant. We never had a problem finding a table in the food court even when we were looking for a table for four.
The store was well stocked. They sold jewelry, tropical themed items, flip flops, sunglasses, etc. The other section of the store sold t-shirts, souvenier glasses, scrapbooks, license plates, etc.
The arcade was small but my 9 year old loved it.
The marina was nice. We rented the watermice and skimmed around the resort for a while. It was nice to see the resort from the water's perspective. You could rent pontoon boats, canoes, sailboats, bicycles and four seaters. Be sure to ask if they have a family plan during your stay 'cause they don't advertise it. It can save you some money.
I hope this helps you out in your decision making process! Lisa
