Trying to Justify Upgrading...

As long as you think you can afford it, and because it's your honeymoon, I would move to POFQ for the 8 nights. POR and POFQ are two of our favorite resorts, but like others have said, it's one less move and they are also doing room renovations at Riverside, and French Quarters rooms have just finished room renovations. No matter what you decide you will have a great honeymoon.

How about some nights at Pop instead of ASMusic? The rooms at Pop are all brand new! Then you can have some nights at PO followed by Bay Lake and AkL.

off topic, but I think youre looking at it backwards. Nobody lets things go because they plan to renovate. They renovate because (in this case) some/all rooms are cosmetically challenged by hundreds or thousands of visitors.

I think you misunderstood. I think they were saying that because the renovation is imminent, they aren't repairing or replacing things that are broken or just really messed up. Rather than do that, they are letting minor repairs go and waiting until the things get replaced. I have experienced this at a couple resorts pre renovation.

I have a couple of thoughts.

First, it depends on whether 1100 more dollars adds actual debt or just whether it's a wise choice for money. I would definitely not add 1100 if it is debt. If it is just wise choice for money then I would go on to the next thought...

Second, if you are already moving on to Bay Lake Tower for 3 nights and AKL for one that is a lot of moving. If it was me I would not wish to move resorts that much. We've done split stays a few times. Last year we did 3 nights at Poly and then 4 at BC and we wished we could have just relaxed more at the Poly (which is why we're doing all 7 nights at the Poly this year). Then, some people don't mind switching because they don't mind repacking. So, it might be fine for you.

If you do stay at one resort for 8 days it is nice to do laundry around day 6 so you don't have to pack as much. I hate coming home to too much laundry.

What does your fiancee think?

I agree with those who support an 8-night stay at POFQ. It's just lovely, but 4 nights in one place, followed by 4 nights at another, then 3 at another and 1 somewhere else is a TON of movement. That's just my opinion. Blessings on your marriage!

I agree. I would not want all that moving on any trip, let alone a honeymoon trip.

Can you "meet in the middle" and kill the AKL/BLT rooms and just stay at POFQ/R for the entire trip? Would mean no value/ASMu during your honeymoon, and you'd prob come out even (or even ahead)? I'm not a huge fan of moving around a million times, but that's just me!

Just a random thought.

Well, as you can see, everyone here is willing to spend your money... but truth is that it really matters what YOU want. Will you be in the room/resort a lot to really matter ? If not then to me it would make more sense to do a special outing or dinner with the savings...OR even NOT spend the money at all and put it to starting your new life. Crazy how much debt people will rack up for wedding/honeymoon that would have been better spent on savings, house down payment, etc.

Have seen people who have had VERY basic honeymoon's.... don't feel pressured to 'upgrade' if it's not easily within your means, that's not what matters.

If you are happy with value stay with your original plan if not spend the $$$.
In 2007 we had 3 weeks spent week one at Coronado Springs, week 2 at a higher star resort at St Petes Beach and final week at Grand Floridian.
In all honesty that first week at CSR was the best. I know week 2 was because I was dreaming of Disney but week 3 I liked but didn’t love GF and felt every day that out WDW holiday was not improved one iota by paying the same per night as we had in week one for the entire week.
Luxury at say a beach resort does not necessarily equate to luxury at Disney.
Enjoy your honeymoon whatever you decide.

In future years you'll remember what you did on your honeymoon vacation, not necessarily what you spent on it. So the more things you're able to do, the more memories you'll be socking away. Since DisneyWorld is primarily about the theme parks, I think you can have as much fun at AllStars as you can have at the Grand Floridian (or POFQ in your case). Neither choice is bad, but if you can manage to save some money on the resort and apply some of the savings to additional fun activities, then so much the better. Good luck and congratulations!

If you weren’t staying at Bay Lake and AKL at the end of your stay, I’d definitely switch to Port Orleans. But since you are staying deluxe for those days, I would stick with ASMU. You could do a lot of park time at the start of the trip (not as much time at the resort). Then on the back end of the trip, maybe ease up on the parks and enjoy the resorts. You can do a lot with that $1100!

This! Save the money (put it toward your first house, baby fund, whatever...) Spend the value part of your trip hitting the parks full throttle, and the deluxe part enjoying the resorts and relaxing. That way, you won't go home tired from your vacation.

When is your honeymoon? Have you checked if there are any “magical deals” from a travel agent who shall not be named? Their exclusive deals can really help you make that decision - you may be able to stay at Port Orleans for a lot less than you were anticipating.

I don’t know your finances, but I’d switch to POR if it is doable. All stars just doesn’t scream honeymoon! I guess you couldn’t get all 8 days at one of the POR resorts? But the good thing is it will be an easy switch. Probably Bell Service coukd take you and the luggage over to the other resort on moving day on their trolley.
With BLT 3 days and AKL 1 day, I may try to just do 4 days at one of them. Staying just 1 night essentially your just spending the night then getting up and checking out. So I’d just pick one.

And since you’ll be there 12 days you can afford to have a relaxed touring plan with mid day breaks to enjoy some resort time. Way nicer to do at Por than Allstars. And depending on the time of year, the Allstars gets lots of tour groups and sports groups staying there.

For us, where we stay and how we spend time outside of the parks, is every bit as important if not more so than park time; they are a given. I would not stay at a Value if POR is an option.....especially on your honeymoon. 8 nights is a long time at a Value; you may want to enjoy some resort time.

This was my thought exactly!!!! I can't imagine doing all that packing, unpacking, moving around. POFQ is an absolutely wonderful resort and actually seems "honeymoon-ish" to me. Can you get all your nights booked there? Or at least everything except the last 1-2 nights if you really want to move to a deluxe? To me, that's a great compromise--and a lot less fuss with all the moving!

Can you cancel the AK night, and do 9 days POR and the last 3 BLT? What you save from AK, put into the difference of value vs moderate, and it’s only 2 resorts vs potential 3 or 4. I think you should spring for the moderate if you can for your honeymoon, but you can be creative with your use of the luxuries to help defray the difference and maybe not hotel-hop as often.

I know it's a cliche but my motto is YOLO. If I can afford it and I want to do it I will. I won't go into debt for vacation but when I'm dead I won't wish I had saved more money on vacation.

Thanks for all of the responses! The difference in opinions expressed here summarizes my internal struggle perfectly lol.

Some additional background, there is next to 0 availability on our days which is why right now it's 4 and 4, if I could do 8 to POFQ I definitely would have booked that. We also rented DVCpoints for BLT and DAK, and they are non refundable, so no flexibility there. We did one night at DAK because we added an extra night after the fact and BLT didn't have anything available.

IMHO stay at only one or two resorts during your stay. We’ve had a split stay with two resorts and that was enough for us. Even though they move your luggage for you, it’s still a hassle and takes time out of your vacation (packing, unpacking, etc.). If you can swing POFQ for 8 nights, go for it. Congrats on your wedding!

Im tempted to say upgrade BUT

how do you spend your days? If you wake up at the crack of dawn and spend all day till you sleep in the parks don't bother. But if you want some chill out room & resort time then really you should go for it!
