Hi all,

I am trying to decide on whether to check with Disney about disability access (or whatever it is called) for my mom. She is in her 70s and has a bit trouble walking really long distances. We are getting her an ECV for the trip but I was thinking of just having her park it and then get in line.

What I am worried about is how she will be after multiple days of standing in line. I don't want her ankles to hurt (which will happen if she walks a good distance) but I also don't really know if this would count for disability access.

Definitely appreciate any opinions from those going with grandparents or other people who fall somewhere between really needing the access all the time to more just using it to prevent her from dealing with the extended stress of a longer Disney trip.

no it dose not count as a disability for the Disability acsess card ( DAS) most lines in disney are wheel chair accessible so your mom can use her ECV in the lines the few that are not will give her a return time to come back space montion is one that has stairs a few right at the end you go off in another direction. enjoy your trip

Disney's usual recommendation for someone with only mobility and/or stamina issues is to use a wheelchair or ECV and will not issue a DAS card for these individuals. From what the OP said, her mother is in this group.

OP, you don't have to rent a wheelchair or ECV from Disney; you are welcome to rent elsewhere (see the sticky for information about rentals in the Orlando area) or bring your own. One advantage is renting elsewhere/bringing your own is that you can use it outside the theme parks- around your resort, Disney Springs, etc. (There are SOME available for rent at downtown disney, but it may not work well for you).

As already stated, the reasons you have given would not make her eligible for the DAS. Nor would one be of help to her.

Read the FAQ sticky at the top of the main Dis ABILITIES page. It should answer most of your questions about accessibility issues within the parks. Basically, she can bring the ecv through most attraction queues. Some will have alternate entrances or queues. And some will require her to transfer to a wheelchair. And some will give her a return time to come back to the ride. The CM at the entrance to the ride will tell you what to do. All of this means that she won't have to spend much time in line on her feet unless she chooses to.
