We have cruised two times with DCL in a category 4, and loved the room. We will now have the addition of another child when we sail next summer and will have to get two rooms. We do not want to pay for cost for 2- cat 4 rooms at the summer rates. We are considering categories 9/8/7/6. Please provide us with pros and cons of each category. We are ok with the cost for each, and can likely live without a balcony but need at least the window.
Forgot to add there will be 3 adults, 9 yr old, 5 yr old, infant.

Well, all of those categories have the exact same inside square footage & the split baths. If you don't need the balcony...especially with young kids...then get one of the porthole rooms. The only difference between the 9 & 8s to me is the location. Yes, the portholes are different but light is light to me.

I thought 9 and 8 had less sq footage (?) then the other two choices.
How important is a verandah to you? If so go with the Cat 6 2 rooms. If you do not care if you have a view or not think about the spr connectors.

No, the listing give the square footage of the verandahs included in the number. We stayed in a cat 8 our first cruise & went to a DISer's cat 6 for a wine & cheese. I was surprised to see the exact same set up & space in their stateroom. Actually, 5-10 has the same square footage inside the stateroom. The only difference with the 10s is that the bed is in the back of the room, which worked better for us since we didn't have to walk around it all the time.

we have only cruised in cat6 but we thought it was perfect for us. Our friends had a cat.4 and for the money I think 6 is a great choice. I think once you have a verandah...it would be very hard to cruise without one.

Cat 9, 8, 7, & 6 all have the same room dimensions. The only addition on the 7 & 6 is the verandah.

Keep in mind that Cat 7 can only sleep 3.

If some of the children are older some people have great success with a Cat 6 and a cat 11 across the hall.

IMHO if you want the veranda, go for the Cat6. If not get the Cat9. Te Cat6 is only slightly more that the Cat and you have an unrestricted view. If you hvae a plexi veranda/Cat 6, you can sit on the veranda and enjoy the view.

For the non-veranda option, the Cat9 on deck 2 is nice. You have a wide range of location on the ship to choose from and it IMHO is the best value on the ship (room size, view).

Either way, you can't go wrong.

Best of luck.

Not sure how many people all together here... but we are doing a cat. 7 and a cat. 11 across the hall. We were also lucky enough to get 7120 - one of the downgraded cat.6/7 rooms.
