Trying to book Jan 2013

That's one question I have. We have a room booked for February, if Disney doesn't come out with their 2013 numbers until August, can I make dining reservations with a room only and then transfer them over to the package reservation?

You can make dining reservations regardless. You don't even need to be a resort guest to make dining reservations and there would be no "transfering" them because they are not linked to your resort reservation. Your dining reservations are only linked to the phone number you give when you book them and the reservation number is just specific to that reservation.

You do not need to be a resort guest to make dining reservations, but you do need to be a guest to make them 180 days in advance, however. So, they are linked to something beyond just the phone number, or else how would they know that you're allowed to make them earlier than the public? I don't know how all the back end works....it just seems to....magic ;)

The advantage to having a room or package reservation at 180 days out is that they allow you to do 180 plus 10 days out. That means you can do up to 10 days of reservations at 180 days from your check-in day.

If you don't have a guest reservation, you have to go in each day and do a reservation.

Where did this come from, i have never heard that? To test this out I just made a reservation on the Disney web site for 9/8/12 for dinner at 50s Prime time @ 6:35pm, and then promptly canceled becasue I will not be there then nor do I have any rooms or packages booked for that time. They aren't linked to anything except my phone number and name.

Opps, I see! Posted before I read down one:rolleyes1 Well I never knew that so good to know! But regardless they aren't linked to anything, you don't need to worry about transfering dining reservations to a room reservation. You can still book 180 days in advance with or without a room or package reservation and just keep your dining confirmation numbers, or I just log in on the disney web site and make my reservations and they are all saved under "my reservations" and I print them out.

Yes, I'm sorry...should have clarified.....the 10 days/arrival point nuance.

Incorrect; you need to be a guest to make reservations 180 days out plus 10. If you are already a guest, you can make all your reservations at 180 days out of your check-in date up to 10 days of your stay.

If you are not a guest, you have to get on each day at the 180 mark day of the reservation to make it.

That is the only difference.

I can't wait to book my January trip .. haven't even gone on my July one yet :rotfl:

Why does WDW keep it such a secret as to when they are opening packages up? I mean really, got a bunch of diehards here waiting to throw $$ at you WDW!!! ;)
I am looking at 1st week of March. So the dining doesnt bother me. I got til mid August to do ADRs. But I would be more than frustrated right now if I was planning a Jan trip.

Now, my optimistic butt is keeping my fingers crossed for this Sunday lol

Another January person here! Planning on going January 4-10. I'm trying to decide what would be more cost-effective...renting DVC points from someone and getting tickets from UT, or just getting the package. Guess I'll see when those prices come out.

Planning for January too! Here's hoping they open up reservations soon!:)
