Maybe someone here will know the answer to this? I am trying to book a trip for early January 2013 on the Disney website and it won't let me. Is it too early to book or am hitting a glitch in the system?

whoops, nevermind. I just saw that you can only book until 12/31/12 at this time.

Yup! Hopefully new package rates will be released this month. Usually it isn't until August, but last year it was June. Can't wait to book for April 2013!!!! (I may have a problem since I already have two trips this year that I haven't even taken yet!!) :rotfl:

You can book a room only by calling. You won't be able to add tickets or dining until the package rates are released later this year.

I called last week to book a room only package and I mentioned to the CM on the reservation line my intentions to call and change to a package once they open up for 2013 and he politely suggested I wait...he wouldn't give me an exact date but insisted it would be VERY soon.

He explained if I made a room only reservation, they would have to cancel it when the package could be booked and I'd have to pay a new deposit while waiting for the first deposit to credit to my account.

Soooo...I'm checking daily. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the online reservation system usually go down for "maintenance" while this happens? I vaguely remember that from last year. I'm waiting to book for January. Happy waiting! :)

This is true. The room only deposit is one nights deposit at rake rate plus tax. The package deposit is only $200.00. I wish they could transfer the room only deposit to the new package but the CM that I spoke with stated that they were two different systems.

I think you are correct that last year they were down for maintenance before the new rates were released. We are waiting patiently as well.

Absolutely not. The reservation will NOT be canceled and you keep your original reservation number.
I do this every year for seven years in a row now Just call again. :flower3:

We booked a room only a couple of years in a row as there was a particular room that we wanted. When the new rates came out I had to call and they had to cancel the room only (didn't not lose my room) and book a package. Thus resulting in a new reservation number and the room only reservation number was no longer valid. My room only deposit was refunded and I had to give another $200.00 deposit for the package.

But you can book a room only 499 days out.

Well I never had problems like that and the reservation number did not change.

Huh, is that something new that they are doing? I was always told by CRO that once you change/cancel from a room only to a package, you get a new reservation number as they are different systems.

Hi CoachBagFanatic :wave2:. You are correct that one has to be cancelled/refunded and the other one booked, requiring a new deposit, as they are different reservation systems. They also have different numbers as well, so keeping a confirmation number from a room only and having a package (or vice versa) wouldn't be possible ;).

We're waiting to book a January package as well. It seems like we booked in June last year for this last January.

We've gone the last week of January in 2010 and 2012. In 2012, we noticed there were a lot more people in the parks this trip. But it didn't seem to affect the ride waits (or lack of).

Can't wait to go again! Love January!

The one time we had room only booked and changed over to a package, this was our experience, as well. Granted, it's been a couple of years.

LOL...i'm waiting to book our trip for April 2013. Even though we go every year, it doesn't get any less exciting to book, plan and go!!!

Hey mickeynut1:wave2: Hope all is good. This is what I thought but who am I to argue.;)

We have booked room only several times and it has always been that way.

I am right there with you. If I am not planning a Disney vacation, I feel lost. Come on Disney post those 2013 rates.

This is interesting since room only reservations are all just numbers where a package reservation will be a combination of numbers and letters.

We've done this before, too, but frankly I never noticed a change in reservation number. Would seem odd, given we make dining reservations 180 days out too and have never lost them. Everything seemed to carry over. :confused3

That's one question I have. We have a room booked for February, if Disney doesn't come out with their 2013 numbers until August, can I make dining reservations with a room only and then transfer them over to the package reservation?

I am also wondering the same thing!
