Have a contract with a use year of Oct. at OKW.

Looking to buy another contract, location TBD.

We usually travel last week of May first week of June., so we book the next trip around June 24th.

Should I buy a March use year so that when June 24th rolls around, I should be able to use both sets of points at once?

I'm not the UY expert here so take this with a large grain of salt.

I think you banking deadline would be last day of June, so IMO you should be fine to stay with your October UY. I think UY mainly comes into play if you are potentially going to be in a position of cancelling after your banking deadline has passed.

Please wait for smarter posts :)

I’d stick with October UY for ease of combining points at the 7-month mark. With an Oct UY, you have to choose to bank by May 31st. But, if you’re traveling in June, you’d have to cancel 30 days out or risk holding account points anyways - and as long as you cancel 30 days out, you’d still be in May and able to bank those points. July/Aug/Sept would be a different story.

If you pick a different UY, my understanding is that you will have two DVC accounts and, to use them for the same reservation, you’d have to transfer from one account to the other which can only be done once per year.

October is a rough UY for a late June traveling baseline.

How many points do you have at OKW? Are they direct/grandfathered? How many are you looking to add on?

I think it could be fine. The banking deadline is May 31. But to avoid holding you have to cancel any June stay sometime in May. Even if you had a “better” UY cancelling a late June stay later than late May would result in unbankable points.

If it were me, I’d add in the existing October UY for simplicity.

If you buy a March use year you will have 2 different memberships & will not be able to use both sets of points at once.
In order to use both at once you’ll need to transfer one set into the other membership - the transfer limit is one in or one out per year - so that’ll use up the transfers on both memberships. I think there are some technical issues w/ using transferred points to book online during home resort priority, but if you are only thinking of 7 month or less bookings that shouldn’t apply.
Alternatively, you can book 2 consecutive reservations one on each membership, if you’re booking right at 7 months (or 11 months) you’d book the first couple of days w/ the October use year & then a few days latter book the remaining days w/ the March use year (or vice versa) & have the reservations noted as continuing reservations & hope you don’t have to move villas. You’d have 2 different 60 day ADR & 7 day LL booking dates as well, but right now I assume you’d get a free waterpark day mid stay :).
