My friend has been told that she cannot book any Disney Trunk Bay (St John) excursions because her son is not yet 5 (he will be 2 months shy of being 5).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this happen outside of doing it on her own?
For those who have gone on their own - taken the ferry & taxi - what are your experiences?

Did this in 2003 with my DD5 and DS9. It was not a problem to take the 20 min. taxi to Red Hook, then a 20 min. ferry to Cruz Bay, followed by 10 min. taxi to Trunk Bay. Get off the ship when they are docked (8am 'ish) earlier and come back on the 1:30pm. You can rent all of the snorkeling gear in the national park and there are lifeguards in kayaks/on shore to make sure everyone is safe. The underwater snorkeling course is great for kids!

My DD was also close to 5 when we went in Aug. and I was not able to book anything through Disney. I called several times hoping to get a CM who would do it but had no luck! I even tried to get her on the Doubloon when we docked but they would not risk their relationship with Disney. (I do not blame them, it is a big contract for them.) On the up side St. John is very easy to do on your own as said above. She had a wonderful time anyway and it is a good excuse to go agian!;)

Thanks for the great info.
Isn't Red Hook in a different place than Charlotte Amallie?
In the past I have utilized the ferry to St John from Charlotte Amallie.
Do you remember what they ferry cost was?

Charlotte Amalie is closer but I do not think it's ferry service is as frequent/early as red hook. We used Redhook going over to St. John and came back via Charlotte Amalie to stop and shop for a few mins. before returning to the ship. Here's a link to the ferry schedules:

Good luck and have fun!
