Trunk Bay excursion question

I’d really love to be able to explore Cruz Bay a bit after the beach. For those who did that, do you think there would be enough time for me to do that - if I take a taxi by myself back to the ship? Is that even possible? Or maybe there are private companies that would allow time for that….

** I See they have a St. John On your Own excursion that leaves you in Cruz Bay - so then it would be possible to take a taxi to Trunk Bay

Thank you!

Assuming you're doing St. John On Your Own, and you're discussing not taking the DCL ferry back, you need to get from Cruz Bay back to St. Thomas. So that's your issue. You'd need to get the ferry, and get from the ferry to the ship.

The feryr from Cruz Bay goes to Red Hook, then you'd need to get from Red Hook to the ship at Havensight.

By skipping the DCL ferry back (which goes right back to Havensight) you are adding a lot of complexity and would have to be very aware of schedules.

My bad, I was I unclear...I was referring to DCL St. John’s Getaway. In the return trip, we take the taxi to Cruz Bay and then the ferry from CB to the ship.

But, it ultimately sounds as if it ends up just as you describe it - I’d have to take a ferry to Red Hook and cab it back to the ship..which is why I’m not doing this on my own, lol.

It feels like I’d need to save Cruz Bay for when I have more time.

I COULD do St John on Your Own, but it I Explored Cruz Bay and took a cab to Trunk Bay, I might not have much time at Trunk Bay before I have to get back to CB to meet DCL

@Betsyp, I have one request - in the subject line of this post (and others that are specific to a particular island or cruise port of call), please include the name of the island or port. I have no idea where Cruz Bay is, so I have no idea, until someone else mentions that it's on St. John, whether it might be relevant to my upcoming cruise - or a later one.

:thanks:

All of the DCL St. John's excursions use the same ferry from the main cruise dock. If you're not returning to the ship with the excursion in question, you will need to take a public ferry to Red Hook, and a taxi from Red Hook to the cruise piers.

The On Your Own option would let you explore Cruz Bay. There's not loads there. Last time I was there, we did the National Park and then had smoothies in CB before taking the ferry back.

Oops, my bad ! I will do that from now on!

Thank you! I think I just have to realize that I can’t do it all..I have to choose. Given that St. John‘s is known for its beauty, I think I’m going to stick with beach Instead of town.

But now I see there’s an island tour where I’d get to see the island ....the Island Tour...but of course, that would mean no time at the beaches..
