"Tropical Storm Gaston sloshed ashore in South Carolina Sunday with near hurricane-force wind, spinning sheets of rain that flooded roads as the storm knocked out power to thousands of people.

Gaston made landfall near McClellanville, a small fishing village that was walloped by Hurricane Charley earlier this month when it came ashore for a second time after devastating southwest Florida. "

The small fishing village (300 persons) is where SSB grew up and still has family.

AND>...... guess where Hurricane Hugo made landfall....? Same place.... McClellanville/Cape Romain ... just north of Charleston, We lost both of our houses in that one as was just horrific what it did to my town. Huge oak trees that I had climbed as a kid were uprooted, and the forest that surrounded us was leveled like matchsticks ... just mashed down to the ground by the wind and tidal surge.

Hoping this much, much smaller storm not causing too much damage... but truly amazing how many times that it has hit here.

Oh my! I guess that is what all this cloud cover is from. Hugo is still a name that makes me shutter. First one I ever experienced.

Hope everyone in the path of this one stays safe and well.

I can't imagine how it must be SSB, to lose so much. :hug:

Luckily years ago now... (for Hugo), but still remember vividly.

Mr. M., in the land o' the stand right now...

Still have not made touch with family, but sounds mostly like just very bad rain this go around... with minor damage... shall see.

Sorry to hear this, SSB. It's just not right that the same places get pummeled time and time again. Hope your family is ok. {{hug}}

Scary sad and devastating stuff...I can't even imagine SSB.

Oddly I was just thinking about you SSB. Was sitting here nibbling a pop tart when visions of errrrrrrr your clipart went flashing through my head! LOL

Hope your family (and everyone who's in the paths again!) remain safe! Please keep us posted if you're able, ok?

Hang in there SSB...Keep the stand safe!! If this new storm keeps coming this way I may visit the stand for a few DAYS!:)

I just can't imagine such devastation. We don't have anything like that around here. Sometimes lots of snow, but we plan for that.

Hope your hometown fairs well with this recent storms.

I really hope the stand and surrounding areas are avoided, for purely personal reasons. I'm arriving in 13 days!!!

Prayers and pd, though, for those affected by all the bad weather in the southeast.
