I bought myself a Cricut on Friday and I'm pretty sure I've read that there are programs out there that allow you to cut any true type font? Anyone have experience and/or a recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

SCAL is the one I use. Shoot, you just missed the sale at Pumpkin Cart Crafts, it was $39 on BF.

Here's a link, SCAL 2.

There are a number of threads in this forum that talk about it, it's a great program!

I have both SCAL and make the cut. I like scal better for font but I like MTC better for cutting everything else. HTH

I have SCAL and I am wondering what it is about MTC that you like better for cutting things other than fonts.

Thanks!

for those of you that have both- if you were only going to buy one, which would you choose?

I don't like MTC for fonts because you have to click on each letter in the panel when using font. With SCAL you can just type on your keyboard.

I only have SCAL 1 because I didnt want to have to keep paying for upgrades. MTC the upgrades are all free. From what I am hearing on the message boards the next up date will make it so you can print a digi and then cut it out with your cricut with out having to tape anything down. If that is true then we wont really have a need for the imagine.

I have SCAL2 (never had 1) and I really like it.

But I have also mastered inkscape, so I usually don't do a lot of designing in SCAL, most all of my designing is in inkscape. I use inkscape version 0.46 because of some of the quirks with the newer versions. (Inkscape files are svg files.... you import svg files in to SCAL. svg = scalable vector graphics)

If you are a little bit computer savy, it really isn't a hard program to learn. I really learned the program from this website as she has a TON of screen shots with her instructions, and I just followed along to create the teddy bear. http://susanbluerobot.blogspot.com/2008/06/help-from-start-to-finish.html

Also the SCAL forum is awesome and most questions are answered very quickly. There isn't a bunch of chit chat on there, but you get the info you need very quickly.

And so many people share their designs very freely for either program, or there are a ton of svg files too.
