i learned the meaning of true love on friday.

my grandfather & grandmother have been married almost 55 years, they're known each other since they were 8 years old. This week my grandfather went for surgery because they has skin cancer in his ear. I went to visit him friday night and as we were leaving I just happened to see out of the corner of my eye my grandfather and grandmother kiss, he said "I love you" and I have never in my life seen someone say I love you and mean it so much. :cloud9:
I had to try so hard not to cry!! But it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and I'll never forget that moment.

What is true love to you?

thats so sweet :)

to me, true love is loving someone with everything in you. that you would do anything for that person. that you are deeply committed to them and love them unconditionally. its also learning and growing from eachother's mistakes, habits, etc (kind of like the whole 'metal sharpens metal' thing). it doesn't have to be romantic love, it can be for your friends, parents, siblings, children, who-ever.

That is adorable :goodvibes

I kinda think true love is similar. My grandad and grandma are my best example. She died of cervical cancer about 13 years ago, and he was ruined. Not a day goes by when he doesn't talk about her and he misses her so much it pains me to think about it. Sounds upsetting, but it is sweet.

I think 'true love' is best understood, when two people can sit in absolute silence and would rather be there in that moment than anywhere else.

That's so sweet!
My great grandparents got married in 1937, and in '97, there was a huge anniversary party for them. The entire family was there, the kids, grand kids, great grand kids, and great great grandkids. I swear, the two of them were meant to be. When my great grandpa died, my great grandmother... Well, that's another story.

That's so cute Caitlin :] I hope your grandfather gets better!

I'm not sure yet, I have an idea, but I don't wanna share it just yet.

In theory I think true love is loving someone despite their flaws. It's about excepting who you are and who that person is. True love is not wanting to change someone.
I think its also about saying everything but not saying anything at all.

I honestly don't think I have witnessed people truly being in love. :[

I think true love is loving someone no matter what. You always want to be with them. When you're with them, you don't want your time together to end.

True love is the purest and most beautiful thing out there.

When an elderly couple is in love that to me in the most beautiful thing ever! Its really nice to know that when you've been married for 50+ years, love is still in the air.

But for the meaning of true love nothing better than 1 corinthians 13:4-7 sums it up the best.
'Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

That to me is true love!

To me true love is:

-Willing to give up your life for that of the other person
-Accepting every flaw and loving them like they were perfections
-Growing old together
-Wanting to be with no one else and being perfectly happy

It is so much more than that though. It is everything.

True love is a first kiss in the rain; dropping the ring because you're so nervous; picking a couch-- to match the paint; waking up next to your significant other and having the most content feeling in the world; putting the pieces of a broken heart back together; a child that has your eyes and his smile; risking your life for theirs; a front porch swing at sunset; a walk on the beach 50 years after you met; saying your vows and meaning them with all your heart; means being a crutch-- and a cripple.

To me, this is what true love is.

K..I'm not gonna lie..that made me tear up! :lovestruc

True love is EXACTLY that. Loving someone and wanted to spend your entire life with someone....and just loving someone for your entire life. I can't even desribe true love correctly. It's just wanting to make the person you love as happy as possible, and be willing to give up everything for them, but knowing they would never make you do that.

when my matt proposed to me, the way he looked at me made my heart feel like it was going to explode. it was such an overwhelming, encompassing, blissfully chaotic feeling that makes every fiber of my body tingle simultaneously and makes my skin feel like i'm on fire. when he kisses me, my knees go weak and when he hugs me it feels like our souls are connected. when i'm not sleeping well, he'll grab my hand and squeeze until i fall back to sleep, and i always have the most perfect dreams when he does that. every time before i see him, my heart pounds with excitement. he's my whole world. i am deeply, irrevocably in love with him. and i can't wait to spend the rest of my life in his arms.

that's true love, to me.

Caitlin, that's so sweet! :cloud9:

True love..
I guess, to me, it means..
Y'know, you feel completley comfortable when you're with them. All your blemishes and impurities just fade away, and you feel like you sparkle. And it's like.. you can't imagine being without them, and when you are, you can remember every single detail about them. And true love is that feeling you get. Like, that person will always be with you. And it doesn't matter if you look like a tramp or a princess, they'll love you.
