True Costco bargains.......??????

Be sure to check every time! They almost always have the Gardenburger brand of veggie burger, then about half the time they have the "meaty" Boca. But this last trip the other day, they had a Morningstar Farms spicy chipotle veggie burger as well. And they move things around.

Last week I saw huge boxes of Dr. Praegers burgers at ours!! Our freezer is full right now or we would have bought a box!

But did you price out their brand TP and paper towels? I like their brand better than name brand and it's much cheaper. When they release the coupon on them, they are even cheaper.

Ditto this! Costco's brand is Kirklands and they have great TP! I used to be a TP snob and only used Cottonelle for many, many years and then I started getting very budget conscious and have been using Costco TP ever since!

Costco is great, but I really only go there to purchase staples...

I usually get: bread, milk, cheese, eggs, yogurt, romaine, cereal, TP, and kitty litter.

They do have excellent deals on other items such as clothing--sometimes you can find really great deals. Furniture, if you're in the market, and other gadgets. I used to buy fruit there but I don't need THAT much of one fruit so now I just get that at my local grocer's, as well as meat because I want a variety and don't need 40#'s of it. :)

Love it, love the combo pizza, love the mocha freezes, love the quality...which IMO is better than SAM's.

I go there to buy TP, Bounce, Tide, Oxy Clean, Paper Towels, Kleenex, garbage bags, ziploc bags, Brita filters, Chicken, CoQ10, Allergy pills, Oil of Olay Regenerist, pizza, homemade tortillas that you cook up yourself, cheese, and the most important for me is Contacts as I save $10 a box on contacts.

We love Costco. I buy Kirkland brand as much as possible and it is good quality and cheaper. Some of the store brands (Walmart particularly) I haven't been as happy with.

Some items:

Dog food
sharp cheddar cheese
organic vegetables
toilet paper
paper towels
laundry soap
dish soap

We also buy our car tires there.

I have heard about the tortillas that you cook yourself before on this board, but have never been able to find them. Maybe it is just a regional thing, but would you mind telling me where to look? I think I even asked once and the woman had no idea. TIA!!!

ohhh..i forgot my favorite Costco item...uncooked Tortilla shells!!! They are so much better than ones that are in the regular bread or Mexican food ailses...and save me so much mess from making them myself :cool1:

We love love love Costco and are often teased for being costco salespeople. The thing to remember is to buy what you normally buy. Do not be seduced into buying bulk of items that will expire before you can use them. Milk is 1.97 all the time for us at costco (FF) where walmart is 3.00 and grocery is 2.50 (sometimes on sale for 2.00) Steaks 27.00 for 4 thick new york DH cuts them in half length wise it makes 8 good size steaks for 27.00. Dog food is almost even on cost except that kirkland is higher quality than purina. Kirkland Formula is made by similac so it is cheaper for the same brand. I do not buy papertowels there. I can find better deals on sale elsewhere. Coffee is a great deal. Bread is cheaper at the breadstore except for Sourdough because they dont carry my brand out here in the midwest...We bought our flooring there WAY cheaper and better quality. Our dining room table great table great savings. Know your prices and you can make the most informed decision. Not everything is a savings. For instance bananas here are alway 1.27 at Costco for 3 lbs. Great deal when the store is 60cent but not so great when the store is running 25 cent a pound....Okay I rambled enough..Happy shopping!

Just ask back by the fresh salsas, pastas, etc...near the meat section. Our manager ordered them after we asked...and now they are always stocked

I appreciate the response--I think my family would really enjoy these and we would use them a lot. :thumbsup2

If nothing else Costco has the best prices on special occasion cakes, photo Christmas cards (or baby announcement), and coffee. There are lots of other things I find to be good prices, milk, bread, meat, baby wipes, pull ups, etc. And I buy other items that may or may not be the best prices - love that rice cracker mix.

We do 2 cakes (they're 1/2 sheet with either a mousse or cream cheese filling for $17) there a year. At my local bakery you are looking at over $50 a piece! They are simple cakes - I do most of my own decorating (there's a thread on that floating around) but they are fresh, moist and delicious.

I again priced out the Christmas cards this year and you for what you get you cannot beat the price. We also do all of our photo developing there. AND you get a great discount on MyPublisher photobooks (for all those Disney photopass pics). Oh, and the gas.

We are a huge Costco family! That being said, you need to price check on certain items as our pharmacies and superstore grocery stores sometimes get better deals on paper products, cereal, crackers and bottled water. Same with electronics, as once in awhile, we'll see a better price at Best Buy/Future Shop or Staples. Not sure about Costco in relation to Walmart, as we hate Walmart. Refuse to shop there for so many reasons, one of which is that they have people suckered into believing that their prices are lower, when in fact, they are not...But that's a whole other thread!

Costco sources the highest quality products, so even if the price is a bit higher, you are getting gourmet food products, Triple AAA meat, fresh baked goods, etc. They are awesome too in that if you don't feel you got your money's worth on your membership, they'll refund you. I am warning you though, that they won't have some of the same stock as Walmart as Costco has very high standards for products, plus the whole bulk factor is a consideration here as well.

You might want to get a Guest Pass, as mentioned, or go with a friend. We do the majority of our grocery shopping here, photos, eyeglasses, tires, books, some clothes, meat, baked goods, baby wipes, cakes, etc. You do have to watch that you will eat what you buy (don't get tempted by a large package of food, if you are not going to eat it) and that you don't spend too much money on impulse purchases. Lastly, Walmart doesn't allow coupons, because they have their own coupons, price reductions, etc., so this might be a consideration for you as well.

Happy shopping, Tiger

I find mine in the refrigerated doors and they are right down from the bags of shredded cheese.

Does Costco sell organic milk?

Ours does. They sell it in packs of three half-gallons and it's ultra-pasteurized so will last a long time. I think the price is about $9 per pack? DD likes to drink milk so I get it three gallons at a time.

I don't think anyone has mentioned one of the best reasons to buy at Costco!...their prices on *wine*. We even buy the Kirkland brand champagne :teeth: , it's highly-rated by Wine Spectator and seems to be about half the cost of comparable champagnes.

agnes!

I checked this again this weekend. The 3 one half gallon containers are 9.79. Our grocery store sells them for 2.99 per half gallon. Better deal for us to buy it at the grocery. The only way to know is to check it out yourself.
