"True Colors" sadly missed at HISTA

The original pre-show for Honey, I Shrunk the Audience (HISTA) was a multi-slide-show cut to the music of "True Colors" (Cyndi Lauper and Phil Collins have recorded that song, as well.)

This custom-recorded music track was very moving with its orchestral instrumentation choice of voices (including some remarkable kids) singing the lyrics.
The slides were very cleverly devised (and intermixed with captions) to tell ever-evolving stories as more images were revealed.
Sadly, this classic show was dropped a couple of years ago (maybe longer than that).

So for the past few years, there has been a "new and improved" (famous last words in this pavilion) video presentation as the HISTA pre-show.
To me, the new music and script are lack-luster, and the still images are very contrived, artificially "cloying" and basically unappealing.

So for those who miss the old show (or those who never got to witness it)
I post what I could find of it.
The slide images are not here, of course, and the "captions" below were revealed in very unique ways (amongst those images) so the proper show can't be experienced, but it worth a look and listen, just the same.

Here is the original "True Colors" music track.
(Click on the link and it should start playing.)

And from the following website is a re-print of the on-screen "script" used with beautiful and compelling still images.

The song is True Colors and the essence of of the presentation follows:

How To Improve Your Imagination
Use it
Ask questions
Take risks
Take a picture
Take a vacation - without leaving your home
Be curious
Expect the unexpected
Invent your own language
Think sdrawkcab backwards
Doodle
Build a model - without the instructions
Look at the world from a different angle
Exercises For Your Imagination
Stretch your mind

Play "what if?"
Pick up a camera - and see what develops
Stay up all night
Write with your opposite hand
Take a blank piece of paper - then do something with it
Make believe
Remember: Things aren't always what they seem
How To Jump-Start Your Imagination
HOW TO JUMP-START YOUR IMAGINATION
Think about something else
Talk to yourself
Talk to the animals
Look at the BIG picture
Look to nature for inspiration - Play
Be playful
Look at the world through the eyes of a child
The first rule of imagination: there are no rules
If you can imagine it, you can do it
Believe in yourself
Never say never
Imagine the possibilities - the possibilities are endless
How To Come Up With An Idea
Brainstorm
Don't procrastinate
Turn your thinking inside out
Notice the little things
Get in touch with your inner child
Loosen up
Stay focused
Daydream
Paint something
Use all the colors of your imagination
Imagination comes in many colors

I agree, it is missed.

We used to go there and just watch the preshow. We would go in, get our glasses and then leave back through a side door giving the host the glasses back.

They were still playing the original show in October of 2004. That's very sad that they've changed it. :(

Is the new show a similar theme but with different pictures and music?

Don't Ya Just Love the "new and improved":
. . . True Colors
. . . Journey Into Your Imagination
. . . Ice Station Cool
. . . etc

Oh, how I LOVED that presentation! Without that, I don't have a need to go back into that theater until they come up w/ a "new & improved" 3-D presentation or something else to make me bother w/ the attraction.

That was a great slide show. I haven't been to WDW lately but they had the same pre-show for HISTA at Disneyland and I saw it there several times.

How sad. We haven't been in there in years. Don't know why, but we usually just hit test track and walk the worlds at epcot. That was probably my fav part!!

I loved this so much but couldn't get the original that I went out and bought the Phil Collins version. We often use it for Eagle Scout ceremony background music.

How can I get the soundtrack like you have posted Robo?

Thanks Dan! Now I get to trip down memory lane whenever I want to!

I loved the True Colors pre show. I would get a little misty eyed while watching it. The new one is just not the same.

Thanks for the link Dan.

I always looked forward to this preshow..It just really got to me everytime and I was so surprised when last June it was not part of the preshow anymore...I would love to see it come back...

I guess I'll be the dissenting voice on here. My wife and I thought we were going to go insane if we heard that True Colors chorus one more time. Mind you, I love the Cyndi Lauper version, but the HISTA preshow went on and on and on. It was bad enough that it actually served as a deterrent to see HISTA for our family. It has actually become an in-joke for us. Anytime we encounter something ultra-repetitive or long and boring we hum True Colors. We were quite relieved to see they had changed the pre-show this year to something more to our liking. Outside of the other posters on this thread, I can't imagine we were the only ones who felt this way.

I always loved this preshow, it was very inspirational. I would love to see the slide show again. Thanks for the music Dan Nancy

Thank you Robo. I miss the old version although the new preshow is not to bad.

I haven't seen the "True Colors" opening since 2004. When I went in 2005, I saw a Kodak promo with an actor named Larry Cedar, who I recognized from "Square One TV" and "Deadwood". I do recall the "True Colors" promo and I will miss it. Oh, well. At least I can download it off Limewire or Shareaza.

Sincerely,

John "MoreorlessaDisneyfan" Kilduff...

The song, that is.
