Have this in my Netflix queue. :cool1::yay: I've read mixed reviews, more good than bad, but many have said to read the book first. Sometimes I do the movie first then the book so I'm not disappointed. :rolleyes1 Any opinions on the series from HBO?

I bought my son this series for Christmas. We had already seen Season 2. It is pretty good but I did enjoy Season 2 more than Season 1. First seasons are always a slow start.

I watched the show first and loved it so much I went and read all the books.

In retrospect,l I think I like the books better, honestly, but they are so different from the series that you really can't compare.

I loved this show. I watched Season 1 on DVD. I don't have HBO, but I may subscribe just for this show! I'm dying for Season 2 to be released on DVD so I can get caught up.

Excellent, racy not meant for kids, a little out there however the characters draw you in.

As far as reading beforehand, I am with you. I refuse to read the series until the show is cancelled. I want to enjoy the series and then enjoy the books fully. I am greedy that way.:rotfl:

I agree with you 100%, I can't even watch this show while my kids are awake because they will walk in the room, and inevitably it is right at the wrong scene! :happytv:

My 8 year old LOVES Twilight and doesn't understand why she can't watch this show about vampires, I really wish it weren't so full of naked people doing what naked people do, ya know.

I agree. My 15 y/o watches it and I'm not totally comfortable with it at times but he seems to have handled it fine. I guess I'd rather him see that then people getting shot. It's definitely racy.

I read the books first and then watched the show. The books are defniitely better, but I do really like the show. The very basic plot of the books is the same, but the show is A LOT different. There are a lot of characters in the show that aren't really in the book and a lot of plot lines too. Characters like Tara are completely different.

I think the first season was extremely racy, but the second wasn't quite as bad.

Yeah--there were some scenes in Season 1 that were just WAY over the top sexually. As soon as I saw it happening, I stopped it and skipped over it so my son didn't get the full graphic nature of it. Season 2 was definitely more subdued.

I watched the series first, then read the books. By doing this, what the characters looked like were fixed in my mind, instead of imagining the *perfect* so and so and being disappointed in casting for Season 1. However ... now I have who should play Alcide in my mind and they didn't cast him. :rotfl2:

The books are a lot different than what they've done with the series, so it's almost like reading a totally different story about the characters. Minor characters in the books were made into bigger story-lines, etc.

Enjoy.

I got the 1st season on netflix as well and loved ir so much, I got HBO just to watch the 2nd season! I havent read the books, though I would love to! But I have heard they are completely different, so not much to compare it to.

I don't know if I would call Maryann and her parties subdued.:lmao:

Still probably more subdued than Jason's sexcapades in Season 1. I'm a big fan of this show and season 2 is WAY better. I thought season 1 was great too!

:rotfl: I agree. Here's how it went--we got free HBO a few months ago and Season 2 was on. We caught a few of the shows (not all) but we did see one party (Maryann's) where everyone was naked. That was the extent of what we saw. I thought Season 1 would be okay and it was FAR worse than anything we saw in Season 2 so, in hindsight, I wish that I had not purchased Season 1. Imagine my surprise sitting there with my 15 y/o and 18 y/o and there was a scene with Jason and some girl (Claudeen). It was not pretty and I was able to stop it very quickly and skip over it. I really thought True Blood was along the lines of Twilight or Buffy with a little more HBO edge to it. It was actually far racier than I ever expected and would not have bought Season 1 had I been more up on the series.

uncomfortable..... lol

Very! And you know, I misunderstood some interview with one of the characters on the show that said that Season 1 didn't do as well as they hoped so they added more sex to Season 2, so I thought when I bought Season 1, it wouldn't have any. I obviously REALLY misheard that interview or something because I thought it was very graphic.

I call the first season "Vampire Porn". :lmao: I do enjoy the show though, and am reading the books right now. :thumbsup2

Obviously, I should have queried the DIS before I bought Season 1!:goodvibes

You and me both!! I've been wanting to see the 1st season but I don't have HBO and wasn't spending $50-$60 bucks to buy it. Well, it went on sale a while back for $17 so I figured, what the heck, and bought it. Saturday I finally was home and had time to put it on. I had the baby (1yr old) in the living room with me and DD6 was in her room. OMG! I've never ran so fast to turn something off in my life when she decided to come see what mommy was doing. :scared1: My remote never seems to work when I need it to. So it was put back into the case for me to watch when the kiddos are in bed. I almost feel like I need to hide it away like its porn:rotfl:

I LOVE this show and can't wait for the next season. Maybe I'm not remembering the 1st season as clearly as some, but season 2 was DEFINITELY not appropriate for children.

We watch in our theater room with the doors closed and locked, after the kiddos are in bed. Of course, I still have to turn the volume down for some of the scenes, in case any of them are still awake.
