I got an email for a two daysale at Toys R Us. There is a Sony eBook Reader on sale for $99.99 (orig. $199.99). It has two numbers below 587031 and 586938. Anyone have experience with this item?

Can't say which readers the ad refers to based on those numbers, but I have a Sony PRS-300 which I really like. It's the pocket edition and slips into an oversized pocket with no problem (think cargo pants or other wide/deep pockets).

The only negative I have on it is that I can't get books from Amazon or Barnes & Noble. I have to shop elsewhere.

Overall I'm happy with it.

Its probably the pocket edition and the two numbers are the two different colors. I have one and love it!

I have the sony pocket edition as well, love it! I like that it is small and fits in my purse perfectly.

where do you get books for the sony? Does it havethe ability to get books from the library ?

The Sony book store as some free ones (as well as purchase ones:)) but most of my books come from the library. They are really easy to download too.

I do not see this in the 2 day sales flyer. Is there another ad??

I would just hate to miss a good deal

TIA:wizard:

The 587031 is the Blue Sony PRS-300 Pocket (older model). You have to look in the Google Cache to see it online, they don't have it active on the website right now. The 586938 is the Pink one.

This both read standard ADE ePub files so you can buy books from the Sony eReader store, Kobo books, Books on Board and many other stores. Not Barnes and Noble, Amazon, or the Apple iBook store.

They will also work with the Overdrive System many Public Libraries use.

They do not have WiFi or 3G, all books have to be bought/loaned via a computer and then sideloaded onto the device. The are a little smaller than the Kindle/Nook - 5" screens.

$99 is pretty much the Clearance price on this everywhere now, but since they are being Clearanced out they are harder to find.

Overall they work well though. I have one and my High School kid totes it around quite often. It keeps his hands off my nice Kindle.

If you're interested in a cheaper digital reader - you might also consider the original Kobo, which Borders has put on clearance sale for $99.

It very similar to the Sony Pocket but a little larger. It also reads ADE ePub files so the same deal .... Overdrive, Kobo books, Borders, Books on Board etc etc etc

There are strong rumours out that Borders will have the newer model of their Kobo Reader on Black Friday special at Borders.

The old pocket editions have been marked $99 at my TRU for a couple weeks, is this the new version?
