Trouble upgrading to AP with Free Dining?

Last year, we had a bit of a problem upgrading our one day base ticket to Season Passes at Epcot. Seems they didn't want to do it, because they said it would erase our DDP from our tickets. Well, we were on our way to our first reservation in Epcot and finally, the CM upgraded our tickets, we went to dinner, no problem at all. Have others had issues trying to upgrade their tickets? I don't want to get there and not be able to do this. I do have one day tickets from last year. If I used those to upgrade instead of the new ones I'll be getting this trip do you think it will make a difference? Even so, my aunt and uncle have lost their one day tickets from last year, and will still have to upgrade their new one day tickets.

Ideas?

Hi! We checked into POP Century last year during Free Dining & had just the 1 Day MYW tickets on our room keys. We went straight to MK & before going in, stopped at Guest Services who was able to quickly change our tickets over to AP's. We never had a problem with our dining credits being erased or anything - maybe some CM's are just more practiced at this than others? Good luck!! :)

Thanks, arizonacolbys! Maybe because I was doing it at Epcot. I think I'll go to MK on the first day and upgrade. I wish we could upgrade at Resorts rather than only at the parks.

We upgraded in August last year with no problem at all. Used the Guest services outside Epcot, took maybe 5 minutes, all that I was cautioned was to use the annual pass only at the gates, not my keycard, but used the keycard for all the DDP meals. Very easy, and am looking forward to this next trip (Made 3 on my annual pass this year, not bad for Kansas :)

We had to purchase base tickets each last year but were told to keep our receipts and keys where the tickets were to use the purchase price applied to the our AP's renewal this year.

So, if you have to buy base tickets for FDP, and have AP's. Keep the reciept, room key with tickets and then return at AP renewal and that is less for the new AP.

A CM at ticketing *may* be able to look up your aunt and uncle's one day tickets from last year. You may need to do it at your resort instead of at a park though. It's worth asking, at least.

And we didn't have any problems upgrading our one day/one park tickets to APs last year. We did it at DTD.

Hi!
I was just wondering if there were any more success stories from changing the one day passes into AP's on the first day of the free dining trip. I have heard mixed reviews.... I plan on doing this in September, and want to be reassured that this will be possible without losing the dining credits. Thanks!

To ensure success of upgrading those tickets without the possibility of messing up your room key do the following:

Go to Resort Concierge at your resort and ask to have the 1-day ticket "removed" from your room key. They will hand you new room keys with dining credits only and a separate 1-day park ticket.

(For future upgrades this removes the name from the ticket).

Then take the 1-day ticket to any ticket window and upgrade it to an AP.

We had a slight problem upgrading to APs at the DTD GS office...they insisted they had to keep our original room keys. I have no idea why, but we had to go back to our resort to get new room keys (had to stand in a verrrry long line to do so!). It went downhill from there because the CM helping me at the resort kept arguing that GS shouldn't have done that. I tried to point out to him that it really didn't matter -- please just give me a new key to enter my room! Finally a supervisor had to get involved to "figure out" how to give us new keys...it seemed like everything was getting so over-complicated!!!

What about upgrading to a 4 day hopper? DD and I already have annual passes, but Dsis and Dniece don't have tickets. The package we got (since they had to be the same) are the 1 day MYW tickets, but Dsis and Dniece have to upgrade. Can we do that at the resort on the 1st day, or do we need to stop at GS at our 1st park?

THANKS!

You can upgrade to the various length tickets/options right at the resort and those can remain on the room key.

We booked with 10 day base tickets. Will I be able to use the value of these towards the purchase of an AP for each of us on day one? We never though of going enough to make an AP worth it but this trip is 14 days and I ended up with almost a one way trip for all of us credit from southwest....so it would be a waste not to go back;) . Or so I have DH convinced:rotfl: .

That will be no problem, however, as has been stated earlier in this thread, it will be much easier on the ticket folks if you go by your resort guest services desk and have those tickets removed from your resort ID, THEN go to a ticket window at a park and upgrad them to APs.

That way there is no chance of your dining credits getting messed up.

Can I just ask them to do this when we check in? We are not planning on going to the park until the next day. It would be nice to upgrade the first day so we can hop parks and not worry about not having enough tickets to cover our days there.

Here's the deal, (at least at value resorts). The check-in desks can only handle adding new tickets or tickets purchased with your package to your resort ID.

The guest services (resort concierge) desk can handle adding pre-purchased tickets to your resort ID, and removing tickets from your resort ID.

The only place that handles Annual Passes is the ticket windows and guest services windows at the Parks and Downtown Disney.

If you upgrade at the resort does everyone in your party have to get the same number of days on their ticket? Right now we all have 1 day base tickets. We need one 4 day w/ Park Hopper, one 5 day w/ Park Hopper and one ticket left unchanged. I have an AP and want to use my 1 Day when I renew in January. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Jennifer

Yep, each person can upgrade to whatever they need after you get checked in.

Thank you. I think I know what I'm doing now:) .

So to upgrade from our one day base ticket to a season pass, I need to remove the base ticket from my key to the world card and get a new one at POP's Concierge desk? Then I can go to GS at MK and upgrade? Seems simple enough.

For those who have upgraded their one day pass to an annual pass this year what was the exact price difference? Trying to budget ahead.
