Ok, here is the story. I purchased r/t tickets from south west online for 03/24/05-03/29/05 for $99 each way. 2 days later I change our departure date to 03/23/05 because the fair dropped to $79, leaving a credit of $132. I was told it would be refunded to my credit card, as of now it hasn't. I checked today and both fares dropped to $69 each way. I called today and got the lower fare. Now I have a total credit of $212 with SW, I was told that because I changed a date that the $212 will sit in credit for a future flight within 1 year. Any help with this or am I stuck???

In July I got the difference between the full price fares and sale fares credited to my account (dates stayed the same). They said they don't refund on credit cards ?? so we have a $240 credit we have to use before May (when we originally bought the tix). I have no problem with that, was happy to get it. I wonder if you were misinformed about the policy originally?

I think it depends on the type of fare that you purchase.

If your original fare was refundable, then they should have refunded your card... but since you used that credit amount to purchase a (probably) non-refundable fare, and then did it again, the whole credit amount was probably counted at that non-refundable fare.

You may just be getting people on the phone who CAN'T help you.
Try writing them a letter at their refund office, and include copies of all your ticketless confirmations.

That is the rules I'm familiar with a credit to use within a year...

Our fares went down recently a total of $372. We have a credit for future use. I am fine with that because it's an excuse to go somewhere.

If you had not changed your date you could have called customer relations and it would have been credited to your credit card, but, because you did change the date, they will hold it as a credit for future travel to be completed within one year of the original purchase date.

I had a credit I was unable to use within the year time allotted; I called Southwest and they said they would give me a 6 month extension in the form of travel vouchers for the $180.00 - when I got the vouchers they actually gave me an 8 month extension and they were good until the end of this year. I was told at the time I had to go to the airport to use these and purchase tickets there. When I called customer service they said I could book my airfare online for the lower rate and once I had completed travel to send the travel vouchers to them along with the stubs from the travel completed. I just did this last month and note my credit card was credited for the full $180.00. I love Southwest!
