I have been trying for a couple of weeks to book a site in the campgrounds from 12/22/13 to 1/3/14 and am having no luck. We need a full hoop up site. Does the campground usually book up this far in advance? Is there better days to check in and out? Are campsites reserved that might not be actually booked or will be cancelled? Is there a better time of day to try and make reservations? And tips on getting a site would be greatly appreciated.

In a nutshell, keep trying and trying and trying.
Try extending your dates. Earlier checkin date. Later checkout date.
Then after you get your ressie, call back and adjust your dates so that they work for you.
Yes! The campground fills up very early and very quickly around holidays.
I, for instance made my 2103 Thanksgiving ressies in July of 2012.

We have had the same issue. The only way to book it for us was one day at a time. Once we had all our days we would call and have them linked so we could stay in the same site. It's a pain to do but it was the only way. We checked morning and night. Every single day until we had them all. Good luck.

Well, I've been going to the fort at Christmas for a long time. To answer your first question; the campsites are normally fully reserved by around February for Christmas. All short term stays are already booked for your dates but you can still book a 30 day stay then cancel the additional days. I looked at Dec 22 - Jan 21 and all types are still available.

If you wait another couple of weeks the longer term ressies will be gone as well and your only option will be to try and piece together a reservation over time. This can take weeks or months. I've done this a few years and noticed that you can go from Feb - Oct with nothing and then as the time draws nearer more opens up - obviously no guarantee here though.

Supercamper, thank you so much, I just booked, it is for a month, but I will call reservation and adjust the dates. I am so grateful for your help. We had reservations last Christmas and had to cancel last minute due to a death. My kids and I were becoming discouraged that we would not get a site this Christmas. I have even called reservation and they never offered this option. Again, thank you so much!!!!

LuckyCharm, Do you really have to reserve 90 years in advance? Things are worse than I thought. :rotfl2:

2103... wow, you REALLY planned ahead!;)

When needing a campsite for the holidays (when schools are closed) you would do well to make your reservations a year in advance. It is only one day deposit and you can always cancel.
