Troubador Tavern?

Is the Troubador Tavern still open with Fantasy Faire shut down?
Also, is it any good?
I'm a first-timer and expect to be in Toontown around lunchtime.
I heard Toontown Dining leaves much to be desired and Troubador Tavern may be the answer.
What do you Disneyland vets thinks?

I don't know when your trip is, but the TT is curently closed due to the PFF relocation/expansion until May 2013.

So what is the recommendation for lunch if you are in ToonTown?
Is there someplace nearby? Is something in ToonTown worthwhile?

Toontown sells hot dogs, ice cream and snacks like yogurt and chips. There isn't a restaurant there.

I myself have never tried Disneyland's hot dogs but the corn dogs are fabulous, so I have no doubt the hot dogs are good too. I've heard good reviews too. Fantasyland has a restaurant called Village Haus, which I love. It's not far from Toontown. Maybe a five or less minute walk.

We've never eaten in Toon Town, but the train station is right outside the entrance to TT so you can quickly get to any other place in the park to eat.

Yes - this is my recommendation as well. Do not eat in TT as the food is not great there. Go to TT train station (right outside TT) and enjoy a lovely ride around to NOS where you will have several great lunch options. You can eat at Cafe Orleans and have delicious Pomme Frites, onion soup, Monte Cristo sandwiches, wonderful salads, etc. Or you can eat at Blue Bayou which has unique atmosphere as it is inside the POC ride.

Try the pasta or salad (not the pizza) at Pizza Port; grab a sandwich, salad or soup at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe; I'd even get a chili dog from Refreshment Corner before I'd eat a chimichanga from a vending cart.

Got it. Well our favorite counter restaurant at DLand is Hungry Bear in Bear Country. It has tables right along the Rivers of America w/ lovely views of all the activity on the river. Best things on the menu are fried green tomato sandwich, great onion rings, a v refreshing chicken salad, and delicious lemon/honey cupcakes for dessert. My son also likes their burgers. So again, I would suggest taking train to NOS station and then exit to the left toward the HM and continue on short walk to Hungry Bear. Whatever you do, do not stay in TT for lunch. The options there are pretty disappointing.
